Woo my first Christmas present review! First things first: Happy New Year to all you Ciao-ers out there. Now, Avon is a company that I think all of you out there would have heard of- with the door to door sales people. I personally had had the preconception that Avon was a bit of an outdated, old fashioned company that only old people used, but I was proved wrong! I received amongst some other Avon goodies, the Avon Colour True Colour Eyeshadow duo, and I was pleasantly surprised by the product itself, and by its quality. I found out more info about the eye shadow at http://avonshop.co.uk (well, you can't really ask the person who gave it to you how much it was because you want to write about it online!). It normally retails for £5, though on the website there are frequently changing special offers, such as buy one eyeshadow, and get a single eyeshadow free. I don't know about special offers in the magazine. I think that five pounds is a reasonable price to pay for two eyeshadows in one, and also, the colours themselves compliment each other, so you're given a good colour combination for your eyes with no effort! You can also get different colour themes, and the one I got was 'classic neutral'. I know it sounds boring, but the colours are a rich cream and a brown, and when blended together with a bit of brown eye liner and some mascara can make your eyes look gorgeous and open, and naturally too. Anyway, I digress… Avon Colour is one of the make up brands that Avon offer, and all its products come in a little shiny shimmery blue card box that clearly say Avon Colour across the bottom in silver writing, and in the top right hand colour, the box says what you have in not only English, but also French and Spanish! Open the box and out pops the compact, which fits nicely into the palm of your hand and the blue plastic with the silver Avon logo matches the box. I was happy to notice that the compact felt quite sturdy and strong, which is a positive for me, because I seem to get cursed with managing to break compacts and plastic pots! The other really good positive for me was that the compact has a good little clasp which you press firmly on a little sticking out plastic bit which then allows you to open the lid. Nice and sturdy, so you know that you can keep this in your handbag/purse/pocket and not worry about it bursting open and spreading powder everywhere! The compact also has a little clear plastic window on the top, so you know what colour you have! Open the compact with a strong hinged lid, and you see the two colours, which I'd say, are about an inch long. I would have liked to see more powder, but having said that', I'm not sure how deep the powder sections are, and therefore can't say exactly how long it will last for! I can tell the powder isn't shallow, not like a scabby sample you sometimes get! In the compact is a little applicator brush, made out of those little spongy pad things. It's dark blue, so it matches the compact, has a little Avon logo on, and is double sided, so if you're a bit particular you can keep the two colours separate on the brush! I actually do recommend doing that, because as the colours are light and dark, you don't want some dark powder in the light, because otherwise you get all smudgy and an unclear colour. On to usage! I really like using these colours together, I think to use these natural ones separately wouldn't really give your eyes much impact! The brush picks up the powder really easily, and it glides across the eyelid. The rule of thumb is to have the darker colour on the outer sides of your eyelids, and the lighter colour goes in the corner, closest to your nose. The two colours blend together really easy in the centre of the eye, so you have a nice gradient of colour on the eyelid. One thing I do hate is if you're trying to blend colours and you end up with ugly block colours and don't do justice to bootiful eyes! When I do load up the brush, it doesn't go all powdery or messy on me, which is a plus! Depending on how heavy you apply the powder, it has the potential to last for most of the day, though that would mean you have to apply it very heavily! The powder is best for a night out, or for a specific event. But it of course can be used for day to day make up, but as it's subtle colour combination, you need to be prepared to reapply! At the end of the day when it comes to make up removal, it comes off really easy with make up wipes, or lotion and cotton wall pads. I think it's also kind to eyes, my eyes get sensitive, and I haven't had any problems using this eyeshadow.
Advantages: Blends nicely Disadvantages: Cant think of any
...colours blend nicely together, so Avon have the colours spot on.
I have had colours that are suppose to match and I find it quite difficult to blend them, but again these colours are very easy to blend and do look good as a 2 tone.
I have used the colours on their own and they look nice as one,
I found another thing that looked nice was, when you normally apply 2 colours, first colour goes on the lid then the lighter colour goes up toward the ... ...lid of my eye, from the nose inwards, then the other half I use the darker colour and this looks really nice as well with these colours.
You don't need to use to much at a time ether as when applied its there and stays there, so no need to keep buying. Its easy to clean off, a simple make up remover cleans it all away.
The little application brush is your standard pad brush, you can wash it, with a little bit of soap and lukewarm water, it comes ...
