What is it with feet? They’re not exactly attractive things, are they? You spend most of the day walking round on them and making them ache, wrap them up in thick socks and boots and then wonder why they smell!
I was round at my mum’s recently and was flicking through her Avon catalogue, (don’t have Avon out in the sticks where I live!) when I spotted a new product in the Avon Footworks range. The Gel Scrub with Beads claimed to exfoliate the feet (that’s rubbing off dead skin cells to you and me!) and leave them feeling soft and smooth. As it was on offer at £2.50 (usual price £3.50) I thought I would treat my feet and give it a go.
When the product arrived, my first thought was that it looked a bit watery. You can easily see the gel, as the packaging is clear plastic with the Avon Footworks logo and explanatory writing. The tube has a blue flip-top cap. Have to say, the packaging did not really inspire me as it is really quite plain and boring.
However, the product is the important thing. When you open the lid and squeeze some gel into your hand, you are hit by a strange smell – it smells almost antiseptic to me! I was expecting it too be minty – well, foot products usually are – but if there is any mint there it is very well disguised! Whether the idea behind the smell is to combat smelly feet or not I have no idea. The list of ingredients doesn’t give any further clues to the origin of the smell either.
As suspected, the gel is quite runny. It has very fine particles in it, together with the turquoise coloured beads. To use, pour a small amount into your hand and mix into a lather with a little water. Then massage onto your feet. If you are lucky, your partner might do this for you, unless they are like my husband who wouldn’t come near my feet with a barge pole!
The particles and the beads are supposed to exfoliate the feet, by being abrasive and removing any dead skin. Well, I’m sorry but they just don’t do the job. The particles are just too small to be any use and the beads are too soft – they just squish up when you rub them. When I have used other foot scrubs, I could actually feel them working on my feet and my feet felt softer afterwards, but not with this.
I didn’t really feel that my feet were any softer at all. They did feel slightly refreshed – due probably to whatever was making the smell! Certainly there was no instantly noticeable difference in the condition of my feet.
I have been using this for a few weeks now and still haven’t noticed any difference. In my opinion, the scrub just isn’t tough enough to tackle hard skin on feet. Either that or I just have really tough feet! (No comments required thanks!)
I am glad that I bought this on an introductory offer, as I would have been disappointed to pay full price for it. It comes in a 150ml tube.
Not recommended and not a product I would buy again.
