Well it's been a few months now since I contacted Avon and became a Representative, so I thought it was about time I shared my experience with you.
Firstly and very importantly much as Avon is a company that helps women to start up a small business of their own it is not exclusively for women and there are quite a few men out there who also sell the Avon products.
There are a number of ways that you can be recruited as an Avon Representative. Perhaps you have an Avon Representative who delivers to you. If you are interested she/he will be able to put you in contact with someone who can get you started. There may be adverts in your local paper that you could respond to, or on the internet, or you could like me go to the Avon website www.avon.uk.com and fill in the online application form.
As an Avon Representative you are self employed and are responsible for paying your own tax and national insurance contributions. Most people do Avon to supplement their income from another job but some Representatives do take a more active role and become Sales Leaders and build a team of their own therefore devoting a bit more time and effort to their business and also reaping higher financial rewards.
As a representative
you will be responsible for purchasing and delivering brochures for 18 campaigns each year at 3 week intervals to your customers in a designated territory. You are given 20 brochures for free for your first two campaigns to get you started and you are given vital support in how to go about your first couple of campaigns from when to deliver and collect ( usually when the soaps are on in the evening is the best time) and how to place your order. You may decide if you have an internet connection at home to do all your ordering online. This is a very simple and easy option, which you can do for an initial admin fee of £15 which is taken in two lots of £7.50 from your first two orders. Or of course you may decide to fill out the paper form and drop it off to your local drop-off point on the day required. Those who do their ordering online, like I do, get an extra couple of days to get there order in, with the deadline for orders being two days later than that for the paper order. This can be very handy for when you have a customer who has forgotten to fill out their order, or who has passed the brochure on to a friend or relative. The brochures themselves are not expensive to purchase and at the most are 50 pence each. The more of them you order though the cheaper they are.
At first you will spend time finding out which households on your territory are interested in Avon and which are not. Once you are established though you will know where your customers live and will only need to deliver brochures to those that are interested. Of course every now and then you can do a blanket drop of brochures just to see if anyone new has moved into the area and may also be interested.
Now of course you will be interested in how much you earn. Well the truth is you will not make your millions being an Avon Representative but you will get a reasonable amount of money for the time you put in. I have average earning of £65 per campaign to date and for that I now put in about 8 hours work so as you can see I'm earning about £8 an hour which for such simple work is really rather good in my opinion as well as getting the opportunity to purchase the lovely Avon products at a 25% discount.
You do not automatically get 25% discount, you have to have sales of £128 to achieve that level of discount but that is not at all difficult. I had sales of approximately £300 in my first campaign and had reached the £128 target by the end of my first week. You do not get any discount on sales of less than £68 and between £68 and £128 it is 20% discount.
There are no delivery charges for the products to be delivered to yourself or either for any products which you may have reason to return. Avon gives a 100% money back guarantee on all its beauty products, with the lingerie the gusset label must not have been removed it a customer wishes to return the item. You may also give up being a representative as a when you want to and if you wish to not do any particular campaign that is also possible. It is quite easy to fit in a holiday in the week where you don't have to place an order and you don't have an order delivered.
All in all I can highly recommend the opportunity to become an Avon Representative. If you are a friendly, positive, determined and approachable individual who likes the idea of a job with flexible hours, independance, meeting new people, exciting products and some extra money then I would advise you to give it a go. I have only given it an overall rating of 4/5 as it is not possible to earn very large amounts as a Representative and Avon themselves do not ever try to indicate that you can, but it is a very enjoyable occupation.
Great op. I know a few people that worked for Avon, and they all had nice things to say about it. I don't think I'd have the time to do it myself but I do occasionally buy a few products. Their prices are really good. :O) xxx
