Now that summer is on it's way, well hopefully it will be soon, it is time for me and probably many other people around the world to get their skinready for summer.
I have used and do use a variety of products to get my skin ready for summer and one of the most important items in my bathroom is a moisturiser. A moisturiser is all well and good but it can make your skin feel clammy and heavy, especially in the summer, so last summer I decided to investigate other moisturising products in the hope of having something quick to use and something light for my skin.
Browsing through my Avon catalogue I chanced upon their skin range called 'Skin So Soft and found they did a product called 'Dry Oil Body Spray'. This product promised to 'Lock in moisture after bath
or shower. Non greasy, quickly absorbs into skin in a convenient spray', at the time of purchase last summer, the spray was on a half price offer and cost me £2.50 and currently the full price is still £5 for 150ml, pump action bottle.
Avon's dry oil body spray comes in two fragrances, Soft & Sensual and Soft & Fresh. I chose Soft & Sensual, which comes in a feminine pink bottle. In the avon catalogue, the Soft & Sensual fragrance is described as being 'ultra moisturising and feminine'. I would describe the scent as softly musky yet slightly floral, although I am hard pushed to describe any particular fragrance notes as it seems to be a blend of fragrances rather than one individual scent.
The bottle is curved slightly and this makes it fairly easy to hold.
I started using this after a shower and there isn't a specific direction of whether to use this whilst the skin is still damp or whether you should dry first, so I decided to towel dry my skin prior to spraying the oil, so I was still ever so slightly damp but not soaking wet. I sprayed the oil onto my skin and my first thought was that the pump was actually quite hard to depress when I had damp hands, especially after the first pump.
I found it very easy to spray areas like my arms, legs and tummy, although due to the pump action spray, I found it very hard to get to areas like my shoulders and back. The bottle wasn't able to be used upside down and so I had to get my husband to spray my back and shoulders for me. This could be problematic if you do need to use it on these areas and you don't have anyone to give you a hand.
The oil actually felt very nice on my skin, it was quite cool, which is quite refreshing after a warm bath or shower and unlike a lot of sprays, you can still smell the fragrance once it has hit your skin and it does linger for a few hours but it doesn't last all day. The oil doesn't feel at all greasy, it feels quite light on the skin and on very dry areas you hardly feel any trace of the product as it is absorbed very quickly into the skin.
I have tried using the spray both in the morning and at night and there doesn't seem to be one that is better than the other, so I would just say go with what your normal routine is.
Once I started using this, I was using it every day, which made my skin rather oily, I began to get spots and clogged pores from using this every day, so now I use this every few days, which is sufficient as a maintenance. However, if you have very dry skin, you may need to use this everyday until your skin reaches a point where it feels soft and supple and then revert to using the spray every other day.
I have been using my same bottle of spray for nearly a year now and I have about a quarter of a 150ml bottle left after this long, which proves itself as being good value, although I am fairly sparing with my applications, so dependant on your frequency of use and the volume you use, you may find it doesn't last as long as mine has, though I think you'd have to have skin that is very dry or you'd be addicted to being very oily to get through the spray very quickly!
This product took about 3-4 week to really moisturise my skin to the point of being noticeable to others, although at the 2 week mark, I noticed that my skin was less scaly than it had been in the previous weeks. By the time 8 weeks had passed, my skin was lovely and soft and it was quite supple to, especially on my shin areas where my skin is normally quite fragile, so I was fairly impressed.
Overall, I am impressed with this product, however I would change the pump action bottle, it doesn't work well when you have to spray your back or shoulders or the backs of your legs, I also have begun to notice than when I am spraying now, the pump cap is leaking over my hands and then making it more difficult to spray, so I am not sure if I will get the last dregs out of my bottle or I'll have to throw it away as it becomes more difficult to spray.
I'd recommend this product to anyone, whether you have dry skin or you just want a product to maintain your skin's moisture. It has been good value for me and there is very often offers on these products in Avon catalogues. If you don't have an Avon rep, you can easily source these products throughout the range on eBay and Avon do have their own website now, although I have found it difficult to use at times, so grab your Avon rep or do a bit of shopping on eBay and put this on your essential products list!
