So I became an Avon representative in June, and I can say that it has been an utter disappointment. Firstly you have to pay a £15 set up fee which I accepted but if I’m honest I don’t really know what I got given back for this money. Secondly I was shocked to find out that I had to pay for my brochures there around £5 for 20, which I suppose doesn’t seem to bad until you get your list of streets I was given 4 streets which mounted up to over 200 houses! I certainly wasn’t prepared to pay out 50 quid maybe more as I sold to family and friends, then there’s the actual work of going door to door which takes quiet some time. So then you have to go and collect again 1 week later and to your disappointment only a small minority of people have ordered, this really wound me up that I had taken the time effort and money and I had got no orders. The commission scheme seems to be fair when looked at on paper well I can assure you it’s not, it worked out that I was paying more money out on stationary and brochures etc that my earnings were wiped out of the equation all together. I have given it several months and I have now stopped. I will never be doing this again, you earn next to nothing have no training or support from your area rep. I am disgusted with the way Avon runs its business, basically your earning the money for them whilst they sit and have a good laugh at you. What a joke.

I looked at being an Avon rep for a bit of pin money, but found the same as you i.e. that it would be very difficult to make any money, especially as everything can be ordered by customers direct from Avon's website!! Why would anyone bother with reps when they can just browse the website and buy what they want from that??
Advantages: working from home, choose own hours, Sales leaders as well as representatives wanted now. Disadvantages: have to be able to motivate yoursefl, as you are self-employed!
