Axis and Allies – “ The ultimate WWII strategy game” or so the producers Hasbro interactive claims. The game is based on a board game style world war two turn-based game. The structure of the game is a world map with each country providing money for your war machine. You don’t only need to be a military strategist but a prudent economist. The game has been converted onto CD-ROM from a boardgame and has several new features (for those who have played it from the boardgame format.
The game is set in the year 1942. The world is at war and it is the high-water mark of the axis campaign- Rommel has been halted in the desert and in Russia the German advance has been thrown back by a ferocious counter-attack. England who has had the knife at her throat since 1940 can now breath and plan to take back France and the low-countries.
 Classic game-play plus new rule variations, exclusive to the CD-ROM.
 Play against war legends such as Montgomery, Eisenhower, Yamato, Zuckov and Rommel.
 Basic training tutorial function
 Playable by up to 5 human or AI characters on a single PC, over a network or even the internet.
 “Time machine” feature allows players to review previous moves and analyse enemy strategies and offensives.
There is a considerable amount of planning needed to pull off an invasion and resist the inevitable counter attack that the enemy will hurl at you. If you are going for an amphibious assault smother the enemy with battleship and aircraft fire. A mix of units is required – infantry to soak up the losses ( as they are the cheaper unit) and tanks to provide hefty back-up fire.

Plan strategic bombing raids to knock out the enemy’s ability to produce units, send submarine strikes on unprotected, unsuspecting transports. When you attack go at it with everything you have planes, tanks, infantry, bombers, paprchutists and if possible battleship fire. The apparent advantage of being on an island soon evaporates when you have to go on the offensive and have to build up tremendous amounts of transports. If you are Russia or Germany you are straight into a pitched battle, a fight for survival.

On the technical side here are the specifications: Minimum System requirements
 Windows 95/98
 Pentium 133 or higher
 16 MB of RAM
 1 MB graphics card
 40 MB of hard drive space
 28.8 baud for modem play
 windows compatible sound card
