The Royle Family is the finest comedy ever to have graced British television. There. Iíve got my prejudices out of the way to start Ė thatís my opinion and Iím sticking to it. And, yes, Iím (originally) Northern. I donít tend to go much for new comedies so when the first episode of this ... Read review

Opinion my a***!

AdvantagesUtterly genius first three series

DisadvantagesOne series too many

"The Royle Family is the finest comedy ever to have graced British television. There. Iíve got my prejudices out of the way to start Ė thatís my opinion and Iím sticking to it. And, yes, Iím (originally) Northern. I donít tend to go much for new comedies so when the first episode of this series was aired I didnít bother. But then I heard howls of laughter coming from downstairs, not just giggles but utter belly laughs, like Santa Claus on speed. ..." Read review

All arise for The Royle Family

AdvantagesLaugh a second, great characters, superb script

Disadvantagesonly half an hour and 6 episodes a series

"The greatest show in British Television history. FACT. If you don’t agree go write an opinion. In all seriousness though you have to marvel at Caroline Aherne’s Genius in getting The Royle Family made. You can just imagine the pitch: “Well, it’s about a family and occasionally their friends, who sit and watch TV.” “Is that it?” “um…no they smoke and insult each other” “OK, we’ll ..." Read review

Royally boring.....

AdvantagesMakes my life seem exciting!

DisadvantagesBores me to death!

"Phew! Just what is the appeal of this show?! I can’t see it myself – I find it immensely boring despite having a very respectable cast, few though they may be. The Royle Family – Ricky Tomlinson (Dad), Sue Johnston (Mum), Caroline Aherne (daughter) and Ralf Little (son). All very well known and impressive actors/performers which is probably just as well as any unknowns would probably make this show even more of a crashing bore. The ..." Read review

Off for an Eartha Kitt

AdvantagesEarthy, working class, true to life, scripts, cast

DisadvantagesNone

"Gutsy Northern drama - well, no actually, more like Beer Gutted Living Room Sadness, as Craig Cash and Caroline Aherne (nee Hook) create a comedy series which is as true to REAL LIFE as you can probably get in this day and age. Aherne and Cash are brilliant comic actors (rather than comedians) from Manchester who were the brains behind Mrs Merton, but whose later creation is by far and away the biggest thing that either of them have ever done. Just ..." Read review

Right royaly...awful

AdvantagesIt's not on TV at the moment

DisadvantagesIt's on TV ever

"...I was in fact on BBC1 and this was indeed the 'promised land' that I'd heard so much praise for. The truth is, it just ISN'T funny (as I found in the several weeks following my induction). The situation is not overly repellant (I like Bottom so don't you talk to me about squallor matey boy) and the cast has some recognisable names and faces in it. Throw in the supposed Scouse style humour and it should work ('Should' is the important word there word ..." Read review
