Did anyone see that Panorama programme last night? The 'what's the point of the BBC one? Unfortunately I never got to see the conclusion. Being that it was on at such a stupid time (says something... more

Advantages Advantages See into other peoples homes.

Disadvantages Disadvantages They use lesser known celebrities.

"Hello, good evening and welcome" ‘Through the Keyhole’ is a game show. I use the words ‘game show’ loosely as it is more like a pat on the back and free publicity for celebrities! I say this because the panellists celebrities trying to identify, by guessing, another celebrity’s identity from looking at and in their home. The fact that most of the celebrities are securely in the ‘minor league’ barely matters. Will we ever see into Posh and Beck’s home? I wonder! (or really cares anyway). Well ‘Through the Keyhole’ really appeals to the voyeur within us all and I would be willing to bet that ... more

Through the Keyhole is your typical brand of daytime telly, cheap, cheerful and ultimately pointless. Currently broadcast at 2pm on BBC 2 this programme has changed slots frequently and can probably be found on a variety of cable channels as well. Presented by Sir David Frost, the show takes a look inside houses of the supposedly rich and famous. A panel of 'celebrity' guests then have to work out who the house belongs to. The show kicks off with Frost, obviously well past his best, trawling out a few tired jokes and introducing/slagging off the 'celebrity' panel. I have never once seen a ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages ...if you think "the krankies" are celebrities

I pity people who miss out on the wonders of daytime TV - no Richard and Judy, no never-ending house makeovers, no Bergerac repeats - you really are missing out on some of the finer things in life. But perhaps the finest of them all is the daytime TV glory of Through the Keyhole (BBC1 weekdays, 2.55pm), which gives you the opportunity to snoop around the homes of people you've never heard of. The show is presented by Sir David Frost, who seems to stick to exactly the same script for every programme. The studio audience for Through the Keyhole seems to be made up of 6 pensioners and a small dog ... more

Advantages Advantages Totally untaxing daytime viewing

Disadvantages Disadvantages The celebrities are distinctly second rank

OK, I have to admit that I've been at home sick and had the opportunity to sample some of the daytime TV for the first time in ages. I was amazed to find that 'Through the Keyhole' was still running. I'd assumed it died long ago. For those who have never seen it, the basis of the show is that a panel attempt to identify the owner of a home based on a short film. The show is presented by Sir David Frost, who should really know better, and the film sequences are presented by Lloyd Grossman, who possesses one of the most distinctive accents on TV (to put it politely). It might seem like an almost ... more

Advantages Advantages inane and inept panellists

Disadvantages Disadvantages no-one has heard of the 'celebrities', needless and constant audience whooping

David Frost used to be one of the most cutting political TV journalists of his day with a series of pressing interviews with the rogues-in-suits of the day. A bit like Jeremy Paxman, but without implying that any Scottish MP’s had an addiction to whiskey... However, it all started going downhill after he was relegated into exchanging niceties with political figures over croissants and orange juice on a Sunday morning, rather than doing something a bit more meritorious. It gave the masses the big dilemma in the pre-digital age of whether to watch old fogies waxing lyrical about some ... more
