"In every generation there is a chosen one..."
Advantages: - Disadvantages: -
Buffy the Vampire slayer is one of those shows that you either love or hate. Although place in a contemporary and recognisable world the show is basically a fantasy, not even a horror as its pitched at a younger audience and so has to be very cautious with the scare factor. Fantasy is a genre that is deffinately not everyones cup of tea, you either buy into it straight away or you probably view it as childish, and for this reason there appears to ... ...or hate it. The TV series has its roots in a 1992 film of the same name, although it contained a totally different cast to the show that would follow it did have some well known names in the cast. Kirsty Swanson played the lead, with Donald Sutherland as her mentor, Rutger Hauer, Luke Perry and David Arquette are all along for the ride, and even a young Ben Affleck is to be found in a minor role. This was however not enough to save the film from a ...

Good drama, though flawed in parts
Advantages: Some great seasons and particularly good characters, pretty gripping, Disadvantages: Stereotypes, can become a bit too unbelievable (not in a good way - the immortal Jack Bauer!)
...- 24, or Twenty Four, is a popular US semi-political (though fictional!) drama show thats currently filming its seventh season. I first read about it in the TV supplement of The Observer one Sunday morning in early 2002, where it mentioned the first episode of the first season would be shown that night on BBC2, so I decided to give it a shot and watch it that night. Little did I know that I would be hooked on this show and that it would still be ... ...a general review about the show, explaining what its roughly about, what I like and don't like about it so far, with some basic info. on the seasons (series) so far, rather than posting a review for one, or even each (which would take a really long time!) of the DVD box sets, so I decided to post my review here. Yes I'm aware that BBC2 dropped this show once Fox asked for too much money from them to broadcast it and subsequently it can only be seen ...

A poorly treated gem of a programme
Advantages: Original and funny Disadvantages: Now de-funct
British TV is rubbish! British TV executives are the most talentless bunch of grade-A tosspots I know. Their mentality is this: take a half-original idea for a show...then make a dozen different copies then plaster them all over the schedules until everyone is sick to death of them! We've seen it with cookery shows, reality TV, talent shows, pets rescue, the list goes on and flipping on! It is also another law of British TV executive mentality, that ... ...and worse they will treat it. Take "Seinfeld" for instance. That is a really funny and original show. What do they do? Slam it on at mid-night and then say, "nobody watches it"! ITV did a similar thing with "Married with Children".
Due South sadly fell into this category. This was a show about a noble Canadian mountie called Constable Benton Fraser who, because of his forth-rightness, arrested a corrupt police official in Canada, then, in an effort ...

Ordinary men. Extraordinary times.
Advantages: a gritty and realistic portrayal of war Disadvantages: maybe too realistic for some
In every film genre there is an obvious evolution in the way the product changes. The obvious changes happen for reasons of technical improvements in the actual specifics of recording, effects and in more recent times computer driven break through. But more interesting that the hardware and studio skills is the way that genres change their nature due to attitudes and social consciousness towards the subject matter. This is particularly highlighted ... ...the images that they portray. Films made during the war itself obviously had a major element of propaganda about them, providing a unity that the cinema goer could get behind. Even after the war, films tended to follow the same tack and the blood and glory of John Wayne taking on the whole Japanese army were the order of the day in stark contrast to the experiences of the now de-mobilised soldiers that made up a large percentage of the viewers. However ...
