Is This Your Slot, Rachel Question Mark
Advantages: Probably the most down-to-earth gardening prog of all time. Disadvantages: Was.
{The Question Mark Campaign continues}
Let me begin with an apology for posting this under Gardeners World 2000. An apology, not on my behalf, you will understand, but on behalf of our esteemed consumer website, which can create categories with dates in the title, without the level of maintenance required to update.
It’s a pretty basic mistake. But let’s be magnanimous and forgive.
I’ll even ignore the fact it’s listed under BBC2, though it has ... ...World is back with us, after the summer recess. This recess of course, has more to do with celebrity holidays than the gardening calendar, given that summer is a busy time in the garden. In fact, summer is the time when all manner of pests and diseases strike – the prime time for amateur gardeners in need of advice. But let us not begrudge our gurus their time in the sun.
The strange thing is, GW is back with Alan Titchmarsh at his customary helm, ...

COME INTO THE GARDEN, DAN
Advantages: Informative, inspirational, well-filmed Disadvantages: None
If Dan Pearson, he of the tousled hair and sensuous mouth, cannot turn you onto gardening, then there is no hope for you. Not that there haven’t been other gardeners with certain earthy attractions. Many a lady gardener has sighed at the grass-roots tones of the late Geoff Hamilton, while I confess to having had a soft spot for Geoffrey Smith in his hey-day. Even the hapless Alan Titchmarsh, constantly upstaged by the bra-less Charlie Dimmock, ... ...that gardening is about sex, or attraction, or any of those things…..
Well, actually, it is. In this new gardening programme from BBC 2, we see an unassuming master at work. In ‘The Garden with Dan Pearson’, that is!
Dan Pearson is one of a new breed of garden designers. That is not to say he is all blue decking and DIY water features, far from it. He is first and foremost a hands-on gardener and his designs display a sensitivity ...

The Odd Couple
Advantages: watchable, fascinating, informative Disadvantages: They are not in my house and garden right now!
BBC 2's Home Front is a programme that could well have been along the lines of the usual house/garden makeover. In fact each episode of Home Front when presented by the unusual pairing of Diarmuid Gavin and Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen is an entertainment well worth watching, videotaping and watching again. The duo seem to get along very well and the banter between the two of them is often hilarious, Lawrence with his Charles II black flowing locks and ... ...down to earth Irishman with twinkling blue eyes, tight leather trousers (*sigh*), a dry Dublin sense of humour and a penchant for blue shark fins and cement
At the start of the programme both of the designers sit down with the people who are about to have the room or garden of their dreams...or sometimes nightmares in a few rare cases. The person or people who are having the work done and are contributing to part of the total cost have been instructed ...

Curiously addictive
Advantages: interseting Disadvantages: can be boring at times
...programme is shown on Friday's BBC2 at 8pm just before Gardeners World.
The show is fronted by Englishman Guy Cooper and American Gordon Taylor . I can't recall seeing either of these before but that's irrelevant I guess.
It is the American Cooper that impresses me the most . His witty in your face kind of style adds to the show I feel .
The basic format is that the two presenters travel around different parts of the UK every week in an old 1960's ... ...sculpture park , the Norfolk broads and Cornwall. Norfolk was last week and very interesting I found it.The presenters roam around their target area looking for unusual gardens by the public and also gardens owned privately but open to look around by the public such as stately homes and the like.
This format is not new it's a tried and tested formula and the thing that puzzles me is the title. I mean curious gardeners dosen't do the show justice ...

Me wants, Me, pick me Alan, Me PLEASE!!!
Advantages: TV's Gardening God presides Disadvantages: Who's got the time to learn in one summer what Alan's learned in a lifetime?
...would love.
Aswell as showing how a garden can be aesthetically pleasing to the eye, you are also shown how practical a garden can be with vegetables and herbs, and how these also enhance your horticultural experiences!
Anyone, and I mean absolutely anyone, would understand the message coming across from their goggle box.
SOUNDS A GREAT PROGRAMME
-----------------------------------------------
It is and it should, in my opinion occupy a better ... ...someone out into their garden. How come? Let me explain.
The main season that this is shown is Autumn/Winter. The typical time that the amateur gardener sits inside and let nature do its worst until April time when the first job is to wade through the jungle called a lawn and mow it.
Alan does his best to get people to plan ahead, but if I am any guide, most will pick plants because they like them not thinking they may not grow due to wrong soil ...
