Advantages Advantages interesting guests, Phil Jupitus, Mark Lamarr, funny, different

Disadvantages Disadvantages can be a bit hit and miss, depending on guests

I had been planning to read some more of my rather boring Catherine Cookson book tonight, but my other half decided he wanted to watch Never Mind The Buzzcocks (BBC 2, Mondays at 9pm). As he turned the TV on, I saw two of the guests were the very sexy but a bit arrogant Darius Danesh (famous for his unique rendition of Britney’s Baby One More Time on Popstars) and the rather sexy but slightly arrogant Dane Bowers. (Hmm, I can see a pattern developing here…) So I thought I would watch it while I was on the computer, maybe even write an opinion… For those that haven’t ... more

Advantages Advantages Superbly funny, outragious, great TV

Disadvantages Disadvantages Only on for 30 minutes

“Never mind the Buzzcocks”, is to music, what “They think it’s all over” is to football, in other words, it’s a quiz show with a difference, when I say it has a difference, I mean it is more of a comedy based quiz show, and can be absolutely hilarious at times, and can include lots of swearing, insults, etc. What is “Never mind the Buzzcocks”? The show is a quiz show, in the same format as “A Question of Sport, They think its all over, etc”, as it includes two teams of three people, the programme is hosted by the rather arrogant but ... more

Never mind the Buzzcocks is a comedy quiz show with a musical theme. It started in 1996 and was first presented by Mark Lamarr but since 2006 it has been presented by Simon Amstell. The title is the merging of the Sex Sex Pistols' album "Never Mind the Bollocks", and the band Buzzcocks. There are two team captains, Phill Jupitus (who has been on the show since the beginning), Sean Young (who left in 2002), and Bill Bailey (2002-2008). Since Bailey there have been a series of guest hosts, including Mark Ronson and Stephen Fry. Helping the captains are two guest stars, usually musicians or ... more

Advantages Advantages Simon Amstell, Great jokes

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can offend some (Preston from the Ordinary boys)

Shown on: BBC2 (Often repeated on UKTV Gold) Length: 28 minutes Series: 19 to date! Presenters/ Regulars "Buzzcocks" was first presented by the wonderful Mark Lamarr with Team Leaders Phil Jupitus and Sean Hughes. Since then it has lost Lamaar and Hughes and replaced them with Simon Amstell and Bill Bailey. Now usually I am not very accomodating to change on my favourite programmes - but I have to say this line up is hilarious. To know that Amstell got fired from Nickelodeon aged 18 for being too sarcastic to the kids just makes me warm to his dry presenting style even more. The Teams are ... more

    Advantages Advantages many many laughs

    Disadvantages Disadvantages sarcastic, childish humour

Well, what a party they have on Buzzcocks each week. If you like music and haven’t watched this yet, why not? Mark Lamarr is at his put down, sarcastic best as the shows host. Instead of breaking up fights between the celebrity teams, he more often than not STARTS them! The team captains (Phil Jupitus and Sean Hughes) never get away with a thing with Lamarr in charge, and the celeb guests are slated just as often if they are deemed to deserve it. Lamarr is also the victim of comments from the teams, which of course he asks for, and takes it well. These tend to be the funniest bits in the show ... more
