The Weakest Link is a quiz show where a group of people try to earn as much money as they can for the kitty. After each round they vote off somebody off. This is supposed to be the 'weakest link', or poorest player but things get spiteful and voting is sometimes tit for tat or tactical. Even the 'strongest link' who has answered the most questions correctly can get voted off. The votes of the other contestants is what decides who goes and who stays.
Ann Robinson stands in the middle dressed like a dominatrix and asks the questions. She also does her best to ridicule and belittle the contestants. Sometimes her comments are a bit pathetic and sometimes funny. She has been accused of making racial remarks too, but there lies another story! This quiz show got a very mixed reception in USA and it wasn't popular in some quarters because of Ann's rudeness and domineering control of the game. The fact that she usually dresses all in black adds to this impression.
The contestants in this game seem to have inflated ego's and rarely think that they should have been voted off. There is a short cameo shot of 'weakest link' contestants and their comments. Most seem to think they have been hard done by. The programme organisers seem to select a certain type of person for the game. There are always at least three conflicting personalities and usually at least one contestant who is arrogant and cocky but stays in the game. You find yourself wanting them voted off! This is quite a good show but I get fed up when it runs on BBC1 and BBC2. That's just too much Ann Robinson and I switch her off and say ,'You are the weakest link, goodbye!'
