Mrs D has a very jaundiced view about me and usually vents forth with the complimentary, 'You old tight git' at various times of the day and night - for some strange reason she obviously believes me to be quite mean with the old moolah. In short, she likens me at much too swift a pace to Ebenezer Scrooge, he of the miserly ways.

It's all totally unjustified, of course, as anyone who really knows me could readily testify if I was prepared to fork out to phone them up, but I guess most better halves have a similar take on their meal tickets.

Mrs D - You're rambling, Fatty, get to the point.
dave27 - Uh, yeah, sorry....

After being jolted back out of my reverie, I'd just like to tell you how this relates to the subject at hand.....

Well, if you're a man and could be accused of being a little on the stingy side then there is one particular product which will inevitably, sooner or later, happen across your whimsical path, leaving one unhealthy little scar, and that's the orange terror known as the BIC RAZOR. You see, at 99p for a pack of twelve of these disposable razors, there is probably no cheaper bathroom related product in the world today and tite gits have a habit of seeking out the bargain.

Let's just consult the Pharmacy 2U website for one moment to see what they think of the said product -

"BIC Razor for Sensitive Skin, the first in a long line of shaving traditions provides a close, smooth and satisfying shave, time after time, shave after shave. Its pure uncomplicated design delivers real shaving performance simply, reliably and effectively. It's simple with BIC Razor for Sensitive Skin you get total shaving satisfaction from a name you trust. This razor is designed specially for sensitive skin and provides an optimal and comfortable shave for approximately one week. It has an easy cleaning blade and grip designed for greater hold."

WOW, it sounds like this product could cook you breakfast if it had a mind to do so, I’d better go and buy a big pile of them before there's a run at the shops and they all disappear off the shelves.

EXCEPT......................

Bic razors are very, very cheap and extremely cheerful - they happily slice through your skin with a will and readiness that will truly astound you - they're completely inflexible and unless you have an absolutely flat face (and of course the vast majority of men have visages like chopping boards) they will doubtlessly start to apply all sorts of little nicks and cuts to your wonderful appearance. They also rapidly lose what little edge they do have and as Pharmacy 2U says, you'll only get about a week out of the mothers.

Ten years ago, one of my old mates Mattie Lad Griffin asked me how long a Bic should last because he'd had one for six months and he was starting to get a little ticked off with the lack of a really clean shave. Well, let me tell you, after about a fortnight, the Bic is about as useful at removing your whiskers as a hard back copy of Lord Of The Rings, but twice as painful because it will take a vice like grip on anything it happens across and just won't let go. Take a close look at a Bic blade by this point and it will resemble corrugated cardboard, with all sorts of bumps and holes.

It's very odd then that our old pal Midge Ure when he was in Vienna-era Ultravox and sported the pencil tache and Star Trek pointy sideburns used to perfect the look by cutting down Bic razors into very narrow implements with which to shape his image. Funny, he never looked like he had to cover himself in bits of toilet paper, did he? Perhaps he was just the Marketing Director for Bic...

I suppose you can't expect much else, after all Bic are also famous for their crappy ball point pens and clearly there is very similar technology used in making pens which cover your hands with ink as there is in making razors which cover your entire body in blood.

Now I don't want to be over harsh on the Bic razor (like it tends to be on your flesh), so in the interests of fair play, I thought I'd just run down a list of the various uses to which you can actually put the fiendish little devils -

1 - Can be used as door stops in a doll's house
2 - Very useful when trying to demonstrate to a stranger what colour orange is
3 - Ideal for use in ceremonies to bond people as blood brothers
4 - Excellent for preventing your toothbrush from looking lonely in the mug when the Missus is away
5 - Truly wonderful if you need to plug a tiny square shaped hole in a dyke at any time
6 - Ideal to give to second cousins whom you no longer like

Crikey, I can't believe it, these guys are obviously very useful indeed - I obviously misjudged them very badly indeed....

How true - they really are dreadful - I can't believe anypne buys these anymore. You'd get a closer shave with a cheese grater.
