My Grandfather taught me how to use a slit-throat razor, there is a real art to it, but it will give you the smoothest shave you have ever experienced, as well as exfoliating the skin. When I have time I will still occasionally use a slit-throat razor, or will go to a local Barbour to have it done. Nothing beats the shave you get from one....
During my shaving career I have tried every technological advancement in shaving technology..... Twin Bladerazors, Twin blade razors with lubrastrip, triple blade razors and so on. None of these have had a noticeable effect on the smoothness of the shave at all other than the initial placebo effect...... "I have just spent a wad of cash on this wonderful piece of shaving technology and therefore it must be better"...... The most noticeable effect shaving technology has had is upon my wallet.
This is why I always return to Bic Single blade razors. The quality of shave is consistent all along the beard, but this is a function of who is shaving as much as what razor you are using. There is also a good clearance between the bottom of the blade and the plastic bit on the razor so even after a few days heavy growth there is no problem with clogging up. The shave is also as good as any I have had with any other kind of razor apart from a cut-throat razor so why should I pay the extra for a product that does not give a superior result?????
