With BMW's long standing history of producing quality cars, expectations where high for the 1 series even before I laid eyes on the car.
My first impressions on the car were good; I was pleasantly surprised with the appearance of the car even if it did look a bit girly at first.
When it came to the drive, the car came into its own, with the 1.6L version providing ample power and control. The drive was pleasant and the rear wheel drive puts this car above all other similar cars in the same class.
As you would expect with any BMW, they don't come cheap, but upgrading is well worth the extra cash. You will soon notice the difference to other cars such as the VW golf.
All in all, I found very few problems with this car and would recommend it to anyone.

Advantages: superb chassis and sharp steering. Diesel engines are punchy and petrols are sweet-revving. Disadvantages: BMW's premium image will cost dear, and rear space is tight
