Bought the 316i SE in February 2005 (2001 plate) and I havent looked back since. Originally i was looking for a Golf but this car just stood out. I'm not saying this is the top of the range model, but compared to my previous vauxhall cavalier and toyota corolla (both bought by my parents) its luxury. Some might say its a basic model with plain interior but it stills comes with metallic paint, ALLOY wheels, cruise control, climate control, rear parking sensors, business CD player, ABS, power steering, side mirror heating and a 1.9 litre engine. What's also quite amazing is that for its engine size Im getting a average of 37 mpg. Its also got one of this handy computer chips that tells you how much petrol you have left, how much mpg your getting etc..... I must say that im quite proud to have bought this car myself. Having only driven 11,000 miles since buying the car (were now at November 2006) i havnt changed any tyres or even had the car serviced. I even called BMW worried that after a year and a half I still havnt serviced my car. They said no need to worry, till I've hit 15,000 miles. But they did invite me for a complimentary check just recently where i didnt spend a single penny, received cup of coffee and they even changed my wipers for free!!! Overall im pleased with car but think the next time i'll buy an automatic. There would some minor changes i'd see. The interiors not bad, but bit light for me. And i wish to car accelerated bit more in 1st/2nd gear.

on quality, thus strengthening the all-important element of desirability.
BMW's are renowned for their excellent build and engineering, and resulting longevity, and the Compact hatchback range is no exception.
The model I chose to test drive was a flamenco red 316ti SE (£17,775) and after initially parking it up alongside a 7 Series, I felt I'd got the same attention to detail, the same superb build, refinement and status the 735i owner got from his near £53,000 outlay. It all adds up to a very marketable ingredient: owner satisfaction.
The 316ti SE test car was the next version up from the base 316ti, which costs £16,265, and it uses the same revolutionary Valvetronic 1.8 litre petrol engine, a 115bhp British built four-cylinder unit.
Valvetronic means the engine offers the same fuel economy as an advanced direct-injection engine, but ...
