Advantages: Good Fuel, Sexy Interior, Value for money Disadvantages: None i can think of yet
I've had my 320D-ES for about four months and I'm delighted with it. It's great to drive (rear wheel drive, excellent mid-range acceleration, good brakes, positive handling and cornering) and it's a practical family saloon with decent rear legroom and a proper-sized boot.
I drive about 15,000-18,000 miles a year, split between urban roads in a large city (slow moving, lots of traffic jams etc) and motorway driving. The fuel economy figures are consistently around 42mpg. On a long motorway journey, that rises to 47-52mpg.
Incidentally, if you are in the market for this car, make sure you check out the ES model. It's a few quid more than the standard saloon (ie several thousand pounds cheaper than the SE model) but contains most of the extras of the SE for little extra cost. Most BMW garages will try to sell you the SE instead but ...

Advantages: Responsive, firm drive. Reliable. Good Customer Service at dealers. Disadvantages: Extras are expensive. Boot space is small. Residuals are low given prestige label.
I bought a 320d M Sport in September 2006. This is a great car to driive, quick, responsive and fun. Everything I would expect of the BMW marque.
Whilst it drives beautifully, as with any BMW extras are expensive and surprisingly the boot space is tiny. Don't expect to get much luggage in there.
Additionally, the residuals are not good on the 3 series. I bought new and have been offered 11k less than I bought it for recently. There are loads of these cars on the second hand market and next time I would by a used car with low mileage to save myself the anxiety of losing a packet.
Having said that I love this car and would recommend you buy it - at the right price. It doesn't get better at this price. ...

Advantages: Stylish, and efficent Disadvantages: better engine coming soon
I have now owned my 320D SE 05 plate BMW for just over 2 years and I must say i am very very happy, I do apporx 35,000 miles per year and the drive, comfort, fuel efficency and build quality are second to none, the style is very attractive and differs from the old 3 series dramatically. I get approx 48 mile per gallon which for this type of car is very impressive. I know BMW are now working on the revamped diesel engine which gives even more fuel efficency and even better miles per gallon, there is also an advantage with the new engine on CO2 levels for company drivers as this is set to be around 131 which based on the current model would save a typical 22% tax payer a good amount of money. ...
