I've driven my 525i for about 6 months now. Stacked on over 13k miles and have taken it to Las Vegas and San Diego.
The advantages of this car was it's driveability, looks and warranty. You can cruise for hours and still not want to leave the drivers seat. Taking this beauty around the city will definitely turn heads. Also at the time I bought my bmw, they were offering a 5 year/36k mile full coverage warranty (oil change, light bulbs to major tune ups).
The disadvantages are the interior is not as comfortable as other cars of it's class ie. Lexus, Mercedes Benz. Also the interior was not designed too well. There was no mid compartment, no cup holders for the rear passengers and no navigation unit as an option in the front. Also the cup holders in the front were not designed to hold cups larger than small-med. Obviously they had not taken in consideration the "Biggie Size This" capitol of the world. :)
In summary I definitely recommend this car for any bmw enthusiast that likes the old (prior 2003) design. At the time I bought the car dealers were selling the 5 series off at a largely discounted price because the new (ugly) series were coming in. The driveability and the image/prestige from owning a bmw, in my opinion, definitely outshines it's disadvantages.
