ProFantastic luxury transport

Conscan be expensive to repair and chews tyres

I took delivery of my 728i new in August 1998. I specified the full coms kit which includes SatNav, TV, Trafficmaster and fully integrated GSM phone. I have been very happy with the car which is the best I have ever had. It is reasonably quick even though the 2.8 engine is the smallest option but...

My first few E30's made me realise what driving what was about, and made me realise that BMW was for me. I had an affair with E34's, E36's, and as I have grown up, so has my taste. I bought an E39 530i Champagne Edition and loved it, but then wanted to take a bite of the E38. My 728i Sport had me...

My father decided to buy a 7 series, after spending around 3 months deciding whether or not to book a new 3 series coupe. I could say that the 7 series is more luxourious than it first seems, and with only a 2.8 litre engine delivers performance that will make you smile. In admist of the S-Class...

My 728i is now 13 years old and still drives like new,Have just come up to 100k miles and serviced every 6000 miles ( my choice ) Bodywork is excellent and the drive is fantastic, comfortable and smooth.Running costs are ok considering that this is a luxury car and averages 25mpg, more on cruise control.Resale at this age is not worth considering and the car is good for another 100k.Would be extremely hard to replace without spending a lot of money.Hats off to BMW.

ConsNone.

I've had my BMW 728 (E38) for 18 months now. It was a high miler when I bought it, but it had been well maintained and it's never given me any problems to date. This is my second 7 series, my first was the older shape (1993 E32). I bought this one because of my good experiences with the older one...

ProA Car that demands respect

ConsFuel cost

I have owned and driven a number of 3 and 5 series BMW,s and have always been completely satisfied .I have also had Mercedes and Jaguars which can only be described as money pits hence my loyalty to BMW. Although I have been put off buying a seven series due to the warnings about the running...

“Ups and downs”

published 11/10/2000

ProNot as good as the star.

ConsNot as expensive as the star.

It really does have its ups and downs, eventhough a first look at it lets one doubt the latter. A luxurious car that kosts less than the S-class it is undoubtedly supposed to copy, but with almost the same stats not a bad choice. But keep in mind that the blue and white circle screams "cheap"...

Hi, I am considering buying one with 166,000 miles on the clock..should this deter me?

Hi, BMW's are one of the only cars where millage doesn't matter. What age are you looking at? A 5 year old BMW with 100,000 on the clock is seen as very low millage. Have a look at auto trader and you will see most have high millage. Parts are easily replaced on BMW's as well as they can use Vauxhall parts. Go ahead, buy it and enjoy it. It will also still hold a sell on value even if you got it over 200k

Question

How many miles to gallon if car was 15/16 years old? Would an older car use more petrol and oil? How many miles to gallon? Also, would it matter if car is over 15 /16 years old? Would they tend to use mor...

On MPG - sorry but there are too many variables to give a worthwhile answer, manufacturers figures are usually optimistic ! It definitely matters if the car is 15/16 yrs old, in some cases it will be nearing the end of its useful life. Dependent on mileage, servicing and easy/hard life etc the 15 year old car will definitely use more oil/petrol, as tolerances in the mechanical parts will increase through wear making the engine less efficient.
