Advantages lovely big comfortable saloon that doesnt cost the earth to run
Disadvantages dealer servicing and part prices still steep.
I currently own a 1999(facelift) Bmw 728ise which has to date covered over 210k miles(full history, mainy by Bmw).It is in biarritz blue with soft sand beige leather.I got my car about 15 months ago(my 9th one since 1995)and i totally love it to bits. This one is very special and by far the best 7 i have owned. To start of it is has had only 1 owner prior to myself and has been looked after extremely well, and that has continued throughout my ownership.the previous owner(god bless him) really specd the car to a very high level.to start with it has the full communication pack with sat nav,tv,rain sensors, parking sensors front and back, heated seats, rear electric blind plus side blinds on the rear windows, folding mirrors with auto diming, auto boot which opens and closes at a touch of a button and so much more including all the usual features on a standard 7 series.i previously had a few 740i s and absolutely loved them apart from the fuel economy which is why i sold my last one.the 728 has good economy (given the size and weight)and if driven exceptionally well(meaning light footed)then it can give you a return of 40 plus mpg on the motorway as the onboard computer dictates and is normally very accurate.Town driving wise ive had about 22 plus minimum. The handling of these cars are superb. You can drive it like a limo or floor it like a sports coupe and if you love driving on windy, twisty roads like i do then it is an absolute joy to drive this great machine. But i must say i do miss the power of the 740 at times, but still, the 728 isnt definately not a slow car by any comparison. There is masses of space and comfort here, and the steptronic auto box is fantastic.Parts and servicing isnt too bad now as you can shop around for great deals on the net or magazines but if you do like gong to a dealer then forget about saving any money there. They ae still overly priced although the services provided are excellent and thats what you will be paying for.
But all in all my car is living proof that a Bmw 7 series can do extremely high miles and is very reliable.ive only spent about £300 on a new radiator and apart from tyres and brakes and servicing not spent a further penny yet(touch wood).
i know there is plenty of other competitors out there but few can touch the 7 series in regards to comfort, safety, spec and value for money.Afterall,my 7 cost about £52k when new (got the invoice to prove it)due to all the spec and i only paid £6k for it so that must tell you something.
So if you are looking for a 7 series then dont hesitate to buy one,but make sure you do your homework first and go for as good, clean example as you can,and oh,try and buy a facelift model as they tend to come with more spec and look more elegant and sleeker too.
