    BMW E38 728i SPORT - What...

My first few E30's made me realise what driving what was about, and made me realise that BMW was for me. I had an affair with E34's, E36's, and as I have grown up, so has my taste. I bought an E39 530i Champagne Edition and loved it, but then wanted to take a bite of the E38.

My 728i Sport had me confused as to whether it was an individual or not, due to it's unusual options. The colour coded dash and piped buffalo hide made me want this car.

I don't know what the handling is like on the standard 728, but with the M-tech suspension, you can drive this car as you would a 3-series. Around corners it is responsive, it feels sporty and it is quick. It is a drivers car, and it is fantastic to drive. I don't know what I saw in my E39, because this is the best BMW I have had. This car doesn't expect you to compromise response and feedback for size. It gives you everything on a plate, and can behave as a sports car and a luxury car to suit your driving.

The down side is that I have just been landed with a £2.5k specialist bill for brakes and suspension control arms (bushes). I toyed with the idea of selling it, subject to doing the brakes, and then realised that for the money, I am not going to find anything that matches this. After careful searching, I have bought a manual, and with parts and replacing the bushes rather than the whole swing arm, I can even carry out an inspection 2 service for under £400.

Of course I have help as I have never serviced a car, but that is the point of this car. It has taken me to those measures, to keep it, and I could honestly say that if it wasn't such an amazingly smooth and perfect drive, I would have handed back the keys a long time ago.

I would recommend this car to anyone who wants evrything in a car, because this is the ultimate package. It has everything, and I have proved that it doesn't need to cost a fortune.

If you drive it hard, the petrol dissappears, but when you don't want to press it hard, sensible driving, and using cruise control on the motorways makes it all worth while.
