Advantages: A higher class boy racer's car Disadvantages: The engine is an under performer
I've owned a BMW 320iSE L-reg for the last three years and I have to say that my experience with it has been mediocre at best. Prior to owning this car I owned a 525iSE (F reg) and it was absoloutely fantastic...the sort of car that dreams are made of. Unfortunately all things come to an end and I had to sell it. By purchasing a 3-series I thought I was buying more of the same however this was not so. Even with a 2-litre engine the performance is nothing special. No wonder they make versions with huge engines. First gear is set so low that it runs out of puff before you're going at anything more than walking pace...what was it designed for? Starting on vertical surfaces? and don't get me started on the clutch, which persistently overheats and gets all 'sticky'. While we're on the subject of overheating every BMW I've had has ...

Advantages: Strong engine, quick gearbox, well balanced and good handling, well built Disadvantages: High maintenance and running costs,
I was lucky enough to be handed down a K reg BMW 320i SE Auto 4-Door when a family member left the country.
The car was 4 - 5 years older than my current car at the time, but as it was a BMW I decided it would be worth it, and I wasn't wrong.
The car has a 6 cylinder, 2.0l engine, with about 150bhp. This isn't a huge amount of power, but it's more than enough to make a pleasant and fairly effortless drive. The car is well balanced and has pretty good sized wheels, 205-55-15R, so it holds the road well and feels stable and secure when it needs to be handled roughly.
It's quick to accelerate, and the automatic gearbox doesn't take long to find a good ratio for an extra burst of speed on the motorway or a slip road.
There is a trip computer on board, it tells you the MPG, how much range you've got on the current fuel, your average ...

Advantages: Comfortable, beautiful to drive, nice car. Disadvantages: Turbo in pre July 2003 Model generally goes which can wreck the whole engine.
I have a 2002 BMW 320D. The Turbo has gone and its going to cost ?4,600 to fix! BMW refuse to accept that the is a problem with the pre July 2003 320d Model. In my opinion, a lovely car, but a shame that BMW will not show any good will on an issue which is all over the Internet.I have asked BMW to try and do something for me but got a blank refusal. I intend to contact Norbert Reithofer about the issue, and also to the BMW Heiress, Susanne Klatten, as the cost of repair in the current Economic Climate renders the car useless to me. I cannotafford the repair costs, so I have a car in perfect condition, in showroom condition, but useless to me as the Turbo, and Catalytic converter is gone. It also has a full sercice history!
