I am lucky enough to have taken delivery of a new M3 Convertible on the 1st March 2003. Mine is Carbon Black, with a gery interior ( I wasn't as keen on the bright interior colors available). It has the optional Sat Nav, Heated Seats, Armrest, Multi CD and the SMG gearbox.

Where do i start...well its done 850 miles so far, and until its had its 1200 mile service i have to keep the revs below 5500 ( bear in mind red line in almost 8000). Nonethless even with a self inforced rev limit the car has a wonderful pull. If you turn on the sports button, the throttle is even more responsive. Performance and handling, so far i adore, and am very happy.

SMG gearbox - is useful, is fun, makes me feel like I'm Schumaker, but is taking a long time to get used to. It steh Ist Gear to 2nd gear change that is the most "Lurchy". I wanted an Auto, so this seemed the best comprimise. You can have it in full auto mode and off you go, but the gearchange ( which can be adjusted through 6 speed settings) is still a bit more lurchy than a regular auto. Overall, the Gearbox keeps me occupied and i'm not unhappy with it - was it worth the extra £2k+ ...probably not.

Sat Nav system on the other hand is amazing. It has a huge databse ( Mine came with the 2nd |Edition 2002 DVD), covers hotels, petrol stations, golf courses, Exhibition centres etc. The best bit is if you chage directions mid route the system immediately recalculates and helps you get back on track. I find it easy to use, and think it was teh best £2k accessory i could have chosen.

I traded in my 1998 840 Ci for the M3 Convertible, and expected to be a bit more unnoticed than the 8 series which turned heads everywhere i went - i have to say teh M3 Convertible appears to have just as much presence, its a beautiful car that is as nice to own as it looks like it should.

Electric hood is a dream to use ( one button for open and one for close). Fuel consumption has been approx 20 so far, which is not bad for mainly town and around.

Best Bits - Heated seats ( if a bit hot on 3rd level), Sat Navigation, outright Handling and perfomance.

Worst bits - SMG, probably not worht the extra cash, the exhaust note - its a bit mettalic for me, i was hoping for more of a growl.

I'll update my comments once i have got past the 5500 rev limit.

Al.

As it's a BMW, I assume you mean Ralf Schumacher, rather than Michael?
