Z3's have been the convertiblesports car sensation at BMW for a few years now. In fact, it was no suprise that they are as popular as they are when you have a good long think about it. Firstly, above all else, its an attractive little sports car. Being little, it appeals to everyone. The machismo is not reduced however by its size.
Secondly, it comes with the BMW build quality that is second to none. There are no rattles or shakes in this car. Its as solid as they come.
Thirdly is the price. for a BMW it is very reasonable. For a sports car it is very reasonable.
This all adds up to a very nice little package.
So let me tell you a bit about it.
its a 2 seater roadster that comes in both hard and soft top. There is even a type of "estate version". It first shot to fame as the car driven in Goldeneye by James Bond. Inside is a suprising amount of leg room although the head space with the roof up feels a bit claustrophobic. Luggage space? Yes there is some. More of a weekend bag than a suitcase carrier though.
Body is elegantly curved with a distinctive BMW sculpture. Not the linear design of the horribly ugly 8 series. I particularly like the contrasting grilles on the bonnet you get on some models. the Chrome effect is very nice.
Performance! Well it has bags of that. The 3 litre will get you form 0-60 in 5.8 seconds. Giving a porsche a run for its money. Top whack will be 153mph!!! No worries about getting to your destination in time! Not that you get to use that sort of power on British roads. It pumps out 320 horses through the wheels. Enough to keep most stable hands happy!
With all of that power it needs good handling and brakes. It has both thankfully so stopping is not a problem. The earlier models did suffer from brake disc warp but that is rectified now. Be wary if buying an older model though.
OK they do make a 1.9 litre version but its like sticking a robin Reliant engine into a Ferrari body. You just wouldnt do it. Pay the extra for the bigger engine.
How much can you pay?
Well second hand they go for about £15,000 now. They are roughly 25k new.

Not bad intro, but info on what the car has to offer would have resulted in a higher rating (eg comfort, ride, equipment, insurance costs etc.). If you ever redo this op, please let me know and I'll reread it and review my rating :)
