I booked a lesson on the BSM website and paid by debit card. The instructor never showed up and didn't even bother to call us to cancel. After phoning the company, they explained me the online... more

Advantages Advantages You can get vouchers for lessons through tesco

Disadvantages Disadvantages everything else you could possibly think of

~First things first~ I turned 17 in June this year and received a package of 6 hours of lessons from my mum for BSM. I thought to start with that this was great and that it would give me a real start with my driving. Little did I know that I would be wasting my money and being talked to as though I was a stupid little girl by a full-grown man. I think it only fair that I let people know what a waste of money lessons with BSM are. ~The Simulator~ The package also included 2 hours on a BSM simulator in Aberdeen - about an hour and a half's drive from my hometown, Arbroath. I travelled through ... more

Advantages Advantages Kind helpful staff. Excellent tuition from instructors who really know their stuff!

Disadvantages Disadvantages The price can be steep!

Well i turned 18 on 23rd May 2008. I then decided i wanted to start taking driving lessons, as obviously i don't want to spend the rest of my life using public transport - plus i don't always want to have to rely on the parents! I went with a private instructor at first - however after about 6 months i found i wasn't getting anywhere with here. So off i went reading up about driving schools - i came across BSM and can deffinately say i haven't been disappointed yet (even if i have failed twice, grrr! my fault!) On my first lesson, my instructor picked me up from my house - on time (which is ... more

Advantages Advantages instructors capable, friendly and patient

Disadvantages Disadvantages their admin/organisational/customer care skills are non-existant

I chose BSM because of their reputation, but having learnt with them for several months I can honestly wonder at their having any decent reputation at all. If I could choose again, I would never choose BSM but would use a small company or an independent instructor reccommended by a friend. The instructors are fine, the problem is with BSM's attitutude towards its paying customers. I needed to cancel an inconvenient lesson in early January, but because they were closed for several days due to bank holidays, I couldn't give them the requisite 48 hour notice. I called them and asked if it would ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent tuition with a caring side

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be a bit pricey

How can something so normal have the ability to induce fear on a bed-wetting level? It is so normal to everyone who can do it, but for me, it holds the same attraction as doing the splits, naked over broken glass whilst having my nether regions plucked bald with tweezers. I started driving lessons with a small independent company (not naming names, but they are called after the river that runs through Shrewsbury) and my worst fears were realised. I felt bullied and degraded by a small, weedy man who was clearly over-compensating for an unfortunate childhood. Always telling me my mistakes, I ... more

Advantages Advantages Tesco Clubcard Deal is good

Disadvantages Disadvantages Quality of 'Potential Driving Instructors'; Price; Refusal to allow clients to take test

I recently decided to learn to drive again, having failed my driving test twice before quite a few years ago. At the time, I didn't know anyone who could recommend (or not) any driving instructors, so ended up taking out the Tesco Clubcard offer with BSM. In itself, that wasn't the worst move I could have made, because the package only includes 4 hours of lessons, and a great deal of extras (theory and practical test books, L plates, theory test CD-ROM etc). However, when you call to book the first lesson, they really push their lesson bundles. And in comparison with their advertised prices ... more

TRAPPED - On PDI Licence, signed 12 month contract have a good reason to break this - WANT TO GET OUT!!!

Signed a 12 month contract (8 months remaining) with BSM, and on a trainee licence - have learnt by the DSA the licence is not valid, as BSM have neglected to inform me that my 20 hours for part 3 was suppose to be done within 12 weeks. My instructor is happy to keep this hush - hush and back date this to last year - would like to blow the whistle. No new pupils for last 2 months - not been paid in last 6 weeks
