Are you unsure which pre-pay tariff to go for? Are you baffled by all the different tariffs and prices of different telephone calls? Or how good the coverage is of the different networks?
Then please read this opinion before making your choice.
I personally chose BT Cellnet - Pay as you go, as it has a very good service coverage which I think it has one of the best, and I am sure that you won’t find cheaper talk time.
When my husband suggested that we get mobile phones each, I couldn’t wait, but I’m the sort of person that has to look around and compare all the service and tariff information, to make sure that they get the best deal, and then will still probably end up at the very first shop that I went in - much to my husband’s annoyance!!
I wanted a mobile phone because of the dark nights and being a woman travelling alone with a young baby. At least having a mobile phone, I had a “lifeline” should ever I need it while I was out, and I decided I wanted a pre-paid mobile phone because at least you know where you are each month. If one month, the pennies aren’t exactly free flowing then you aren’t tied to Direct Debit. YOU can decide how much you want to spend or not!
I don't wish to state the obvious - but you will need to buy a phone that is specifically for pre-paid vouchers - just incase there was anyone that didn’t know that!
There are four main pre-pay choices: -
Vodaphone Orange One 2 One BT Cellnet
and at the time of writing this opinion, these are the current prices per minute: -
Vodaphone “smartstep” - first 3 minutes of calls daytime - 25p additional calls each day - 5p,
Orange “just talk” - standard calls peak time - 35p, off peak - 10p Orange to Orange - peak time - 20p, off peak - 10p
One 2 One - first 2 minutes of calls - 30p, thereafter 5p anytime,
BT Cellnet - standard calls - 25p weekdays, 10p evenings, 2p weekends, BT Cellnet to BT Cellnet - 10p Monday - Friday at all times, 2p weekends calls to other mobiles - 50p weekdays, 25p evening and weekends.
My husband and I are both on BT Cellnet, so it is just 10p during the week and then just 2p at the weekends, or just 10p a text message. Also, because we are now on BT Surftime and have BT Internet as our ISP, we now get cheaper mobile phone calls to and from our home telephone landline.
The vouchers can be bought from most supermarkets and good retailers, and also at the Post Office. They can be bought in denominations of £5, £10, £15, £20 and £50, and it is very easy to transfer the credit onto your phone.
You just open the voucher, scratch off the silver part on it, which reveals a number. Follow the instructions either on the voucher or the instructions that came with your phone. This is usually dialling key 3 and then listening and following the instructions on the automated system. At some point you will need to key in the number on the voucher, which can only be done once and then that’s it, your phone is now ready to go.
I certainly wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the BT Cellnet pre pay service.
It definitely works for us - so why pay more, when you can pay less!
