Advantages Some useful features for those with sight/hearing difficulty. Well designed.
Disadvantages No design style, the features are not aimed to impress your mates!
The BT Big Button 100 isnt a too recent addition to the electrical furniture in my living room, and the reasoning behind it was more about function than design. As you can clearly see from the picture you couldn't use words such as 'sleek' or 'subtle' to describe it, but the functionality of this corded telephone meets our requirements and at around the £20 you really cannot go wrong. Obviously, if you are looking for something with a million different features (most of which you probably won't use anyway) then you would be best looking elsewhere, but for a basic telephone it is ideal. The looks (and sheer size!) are the first thing you notice about a product, and although it has a very basic look and feel to it there are a couple of useful features that even the most sophisticated handsets might not possess. The first feature i came across that I hadn't seen on any of the previous corded phones I have owned is the ability to adjust the earpiece volume. You could be forgiven for thinking this is a pointless feature, but for those hard of hearing it could be the difference between being able to hear somebody on the other end of the phone or not. The embarrassment of constantly having to ask someone to speak up or repeat what they just said can be a regular occurrence for some.
The extra large number buttons on the telephone is also a major plus point for some users, and instead of having to scramble for your spectacles before booking a takeaway or taxi you may not need to with the clear text on each button. A call indicator light is useful for those hard of hearing and the telephone is also hearing aid compatible. One of the other features on the phone is a 1471 button, which saves you from having to press each number or even remember which number to dial! The telephone is so easy to operate, though, with large buttons you no longer have an excuse for calling the wrong number! The handset is designed such that it is easy to grip in the hand and from the features highlighted above you will now realise that this is a telephone aimed at the older generation. Obviously it will be useful for anyone with sight or hearing difficulty, but it will be beneficial to anyone who currently struggles to use their telephone at the moment.
Other features to note are a ringing volume control, speech amplification and a speed dial number memory. everything on the phone has been well thought out. Clearly this phone isn't designed for someone looking for a talking point, but it may do just that for all the wrong reasons! Products like this are not designed for their elegance, but their necessity, and that is something the BT Big Button 100 has in spades.
