There is nothing more important than the safety of your child. That is why it's so important to have a baby monitor that works effectively. You will worry about your baby at night especially when they are old enough to sleep in their own room away from you. The given time for this is usually around 6 months. When your baby is first born you will want them to sleep with you so you can make extra sure that they are safe.
A baby monitor is a device which monitors the activities of your baby whilst you are occupied. These are good when you want to leave your baby to sleep in a room on their own. They make it easier to get into a routine and also to get on with your daily chores whilst your baby is sleeping. There are audio and audio-visual baby monitors as well as specialized ones that can sense the body movements of the baby. It is a good idea to think about your own needs as well as your babies needs before you set out to buy one. A baby monitor is not something you can rush out to buy on impulse, but is worth spending a little time researching the different types of monitor before you buy one. It is advisable to buy only the best quality you can afford to ensure accuracy and reliability. Once you have invested your money in a baby monitor you want to be sure that it works and is not suddenly going to break down on you. It is better if you can buy a monitor that comes with a guarantee.
We bought these monitors when our baby was born and to be honest with you have hardly used them. I think that's because we don't really have the need to yet. I think when Lauretta is in her nursery we will use them.
They are I think amongst the best monitor's on the market today. The sound quality is amazing thanks to genuine digital technology it picks up the slightest bit of noise. Such as when she makes little noises in her sleep.
You may find these monitors expensive, but you get what you pay for. The sound quality is excellent and there is no interference. The BT Digital Baby Monitor Plus has extra features hence the name (plus) it has LCD, five lullabies and a temperature monitor. I love the extra features because they do help. The temperature monitor tells you if the room is too hot or too cold so you can always keep an eye on the room temperature. It is a digital temperature monitor and has always been very accurate. The lullabies are great to play to help get baby to sleep and so far when we have used them they have worked a treat. The light we don't really use and to be honest I cannot really see a need for it. I think it is better for a baby to get used to sleeping without a light or else they will not sleep without the light off. The extra features are good, but you are paying slightly more for these features and you could do without them and get the baby monitor that is slightly cheaper than this one, but still BT.
This monitor has a range of up to 300 metres (in ideal conditions) this makes it more easier to get on with the house work or other chores that need doing whilst your baby sleeps. 50 metres inside which is more than adequate. The intercom feature means that a constant link is maintained between parent and baby. I like this feature because you can just press the button and talk to your baby. So if you need to reassure your baby you can at the press of a button. This means you can carry on with your jobs or sit and finish watching your favourite programme.
There are basically 3 monitor's that BT have brought out and each with different price ranges. Your cheapest is :
BT Baby Monitor Crystal-clear sound quality and no interference. Nightlights Talkback Sound sensitive lights
The price for this is: £49.99
Next you have the monitor I am reviewing:
The BT Digital Baby Monitor Plus
Features Digital sound clarity and security Intercom (parent can remotely talk to baby) Temperature Monitor with alarm Lullabies - 5 tunes LCD on parent & baby unit Easy-to-use menu facility in parent unit Nightlight (can be remotely activated) Adjustable volume on parent & baby units Microphone sensitivity Portable parent unit (range to 300 metres) Paging Facility Sound sensitive lights Travel pack (protects baby monitor on journeys) 120 channels
The price for this is: £69.99
Then the 3rd one which is the most expensive of the lot and I cannot see the real need for this unless you have a special need baby or an extra worrisome parent:
Baby Monitor Double Pack
BT Baby Monitor Plus & Panasonic BL-C10 Network Security Camera LCD 5 lullabies Room temperature monitor Crystal-clear sound quality and no interference. Nightlights Talkback This is priced at: £269.98
In reviewing the BT Digital Baby Monitor Plus I would say that one of the weaker points is the charge life. It isn't as good as you would expect for the price that you are paying. I do like the fact that you can switch on the night light and music from the parent monitor. This means you don't have to go into the babies room. Another important feature is the audible alert that the monitor emits if the signal between the units is lost - the monitor will never just cut off without warning, it will always give an audible alert.
I like the design of this monitor too. It is a simple pastel green colour, is neat and not too bulky. It is lightweight and easy to grip and handle. Overall I would recommend this baby monitor to you because I believe it is good quality and good value for money.
Advantages: Intercom feature, temperature indicator, crystal clear sound, sensitive, good looks, light indicator, adjustable volume Disadvantages: some unnecessary features e.g. nightlight
As a BT digital phone owner, it struck me that the same technology could be used in a baby monitor, and lo and behold those clever people at BT have gone and done it. While looking into Baby Monitors it seemed to me that you can have a basic (non-digital) model for around £20, or you can go over £100 for the video option, but as someone who wanted an 'in-between' option I plumped for the BT Digital Baby Monitor Plus which retails for around £70. ... ...clear sound, and a temperature indicator on the parent unit. This is exactly what I got and more. To be honest I don't bother with the nightlight or the range of lullabies, but the other feature I find useful is the light indicators - useful for when I've got my hairdryer on for example! When the indicator flashes into the red then you know you've got an unhappy baby! The 'talk' feature is very useful, less for reassuring baby and more for communicating ...

Advantages: Battery or mains, brilliant sound quality, remote control from parent unit Disadvantages: Night light useless
I have been very impressed by all the features of this baby monitor, with the exception of the night light which does not light anything up (pretty stars though).
The sound is very clear, I can hear every noise my baby makes, even breathing which is very reassuring. You can also turn the sound down easily and even have it silent but use the lights to let you know when your baby is making a noise. There are several sensitivity levels so if you are ... ...you don't hear all the tiny sounds.
The talk back function is very useful as you can use the monitor as a walky talky, reassure your baby or talk to people in the babies room.
The digital thermometer has also been useful as you can set a temperature range and an alarm so if the temperature drops or rises too much you are alerted with a beep (you can also turn it off!).
The main unit is controlled from the parent unit which is great as you can ...

Advantages: Talk back feature, No interference, very clear sound, Disadvantages: Expensive
...that we went for the bt digital baby monitor plus was because it is a true digital monitor, unlike the tomy monitor which claimed to be digital however only had 2 channels. This meant that if somebody had the same monitor in the area then it would pick up on their noises. You do not get any interference what so ever with the bt digital monitor plus. Make sure that if purchasing a digital monitor, that it is true digital and has more than 2 channels. ... ...have heard our baby breathing when on the highest sensitivity, which is adjustable from your handset.
The next great feature is that you can use the talk back facility to sooth your baby if crying. This has been fantastic for me as when my little girl has cried, i have been able to speak to her without going upstairs. I have had the monitors for 4 months now and have not had to go up stairs to her once, although i do have to say my baby is a very ...

Advantages: Clear sounds, change sensitivity, plays lullabyes Disadvantages: not sure about the battery power
Baby's can be expensive, living in a one bedroom flat I was relieved to think that I could live without the expense of a baby monitor until we have to move. That was until my sister came over from the states with her 10 month old and we realised she'd need one at my mums house so figured I may as well buy it!!!
So I did a little research on the net.. as you are probably doing now if your reading this.. And of course had to make sure I could get ... ...points that they were offering on all monitors at the time!!
At first I wanted a phillips model, I think mainly because it had a light and thought maybe that would be useful??? But due to it not being in stock, and reading a few reviews opted with this one.
So it arrived and excitedly went over to give it to my sister.
Ease of use
First of all its easy to use, There's no rocket science involved, which is good with my pregnant head and my sisters ...

Advantages: Excellent sound quality Disadvantages: expensive, not all features are really necessary
...so instead a purchased the BT Digital Monitor Plus from John Lewis for just under £70. The difference with a digital monitor is remarkable. The sound quality is sooo much better, you don't get any interference or annoying clicking sounds, all you hear is your baby. The BT version is very sensitive. Most of the time I can hear my little one breathing. The monitor comes with a lot of extra features such as:
-Displays temperature in babys room - this ... ...below recommended guidelines. This is good but I found early on I had to change the temperature at which the alarm sounds because in mid summer it was impossible to keep his room that cool.
-Talk back feature, you can press a button on the parent unit and talk to your baby. Maybe some parents manage to get there babys back off to sleep by using this but I find I still have to go in to him, however it has been useful if I need to tell my husband ...

Advantages: Absolutely idiot proof Disadvantages: Loads of interference
't purely digital, therefore was still prone to interference. We purchased the BTDigitalBabyMonitorPlus (£60 from BT's website), and so far it has been well worth the money. I'd definitely reccommend spending a little extra on digitalmonitors, it saves far less hassle in the long run.
The Tomy units themselves are really simple to operate. On both units there is a switch at the side where you can change from channel A to B, but both monitors have to be on the same channel. The parent unit also features lights that indicate noise level. It starts off as green for a little whimper right through to red for screaming. When my unit was picking up interference the red lights were on. The units can be operated by plug or by battery, so you could use the parent unit mobily if you wanted. ...
