I have decided to change my house phone a while back and the bt glide was on top of my list for a while. It really seemed like a novel phone but the price tag of £199 put me off quite a bit. It was only recently that I saw the same phone for a fraction of the price on ebay and decided to buy it.
It is slimline and has the glide opening and it kind of looks like a slightly larger than average mobile phone. The main advantage is that it comes with an answering machine but it doesn't take up that much space(answering machine is a must).
When I received the phone, I expected to just plug it in and be away setting everything up. However, it did not work with my existing phone connections(which fitted) and I had to use the ones provided with the phone(this was no easy task as I have always had my wire running under the carpet). This took one evening to do and I had to wait until the next day to input all my info on the phone. This task was made easier as the phone can take your numbers from your mobiles sim card (although it is not compatible with 3G and 5V sim cards) and the bluetooth connectivity is great for exchanging info from mobile to phone. I was alos fortunate to get a free bt bluetooth earpiece(although it has a wire and has to be clipped on your top). This is a great feature as you can answer and talk on the phone without having to hold it(or in my case looking for it) and really works as a hands free kit. This also solve one of the main problem I have found with the phone. This is that it tends to echo when the earpiece volume is on high. This can be turned down but you then struggle to hear the other person. I tend to use the hands free kit whenever possible(although I am ususally near the phone to see who is calling). I still have to try the phone with my mobile hands free as this would be more convenient than having a wire around my neck which is always tugged on by my son.
This phone comes with a lot of features such as differrent images for your background and different ringtones(10 polyphonic and 5 standard). I am still in the process of trying to send some of my mobile images to it so I can have a customised background. It also has the capability of sending text messages to mobiles or other phones (through the funny voiced lady on a landline) with predictive textingalthough I do not know the cost of doing this on bt or other network. Guess I will find out when I receive my next bill.
It also has 3 games as standard:
Mars lander :Try to land your spaceship without crashing or running out of fuel Apples and pears :My favourite. Lining up fruits and making 3 or 4 in a row(no more paying jumble fever on sky for me) Solitaire : Classic card game
The games are quite enternaining but as with all phone games the control can be a bit fiddly(although you have the choice of directional buttons or numbers). The phone has 200 name storage facility, caller display, loudspeaker or secrecy, 7 display languages and the list goes on.
Apart for the echo on the handset when set on high(as stated above, the handsfree solves this problem) This is the ultimate home mobile so far if you can get it at a reasonable price. It is easy to use and the features will take a while to work through. This is definately one for the gadget seeker.
