Initially BT did a deal with O2 and marketed a service called Mobile Sense, which has been reviewed excellently here.
However in November 03, the shop was shut to new Customers on Mobile Sense and BT introduced BT Mobile Home Plan. It is rumoured this is run of the T-Mobile network

What exactly is this?
You put together your own package based on three main building blocks:-
- chose a handset / handsets, most are free - a fixed monthly service charge of £12.50 for first handset, £10 for additional (SIM only option cheaper) - additional pre-purchased airtime
The USP is that you get a number of free calls to your home (BT) number
Essentially, the more pre-purchased airtime you buy, the cheaper it gets
Any calls over the pre-purchased time are charged at Standard Rates (see on), so if you took zero pre-purchased time, all calls would be at Standard Rates
Free handsets include Nokia 7250i or Sony 610, (both with camera), provided you take a Contract. You can have up to 5 additional account users
Pre-purchased time can be zero or starts at 100 minutes a month (£10) up to 1000 (£90). This includes calls to other Networks, so for instance you can call T-Mobile for 10p minute any time.
Texts again can be zero or 50 a month (£4) in steps thru to 400 (£24)
Standard call rates (ie anything over that pre-purchased) is 10p a minute to landlines and other BT Mobile phones, 30p a minute to other mobile networks, 10p a SMS and 30p a picture message
So in Summary if you opt for 100 inclusive minutes a month, it would cost a total of £22.50 a month
I have compared this with T-Mobile and its roughly the same, I get 100 'free' inclusive minutes for a total cost of £21 a month. However I do not get free short calls home.
Note the BT Free Calls Home are limited to 2 minutes a call and a total of 1000 minutes a month. There is a 'Fair Use' policy
Where T-Mobile did not compare well is that I recently upgraded to a Sony 610 and they charged me £49 - with BT Mobile Home it would have been free if I had gone for the 100 minute a month Contract
You can use International Roaming but as with all Operators need the bar taken off first. I cannot find reference to the prices on the web site. This might be a big issue if you go abroad a lot. T-Mobile has a feature where for £2.50 a month (you can opt in and out at any time) you can reduce the cost of incoming calls (the roaming bit you pay) by at least 40%. So rather than phone out from Belgium at say £1 a minute, you can take a call from home paying only 20p a minute. If people are not prepared to call you, however this facility isn't much good
BT Customer Service can be reached by email or a 0800 (free from landline) number
The web site is a link off www.bt.com and quite clear to use
To sum up, the good things are:-
- set it up online - one bill for the whole family irrespective of number of handsets - good range of 'free' handsets - prepaid minutes are good value if you know you will use them - free calls home
Worth Considering therefore by a Family who has several phones and several Contracts, or by someone who makes a lot of calls, currently pays standard rates and fancies a new handset
The downside I think is:-
- if you don't use up your free minutes they only roll over one month, however this is the same with other Operators and with BT you get voice or text alerts to tell you how much you've got - you need to have a BT line at home -the big one!!!You can transfer an existing number by asking your current Operator for a PAC code. In theory his is simple but when I tried to move from O2 to T-Mobile it took emails to the CEO of O2 and intervention of OFTEL, so be warned!!Footnote: This is my understanding of the T&Cs which BT might decide to change. I recommend you check this out carefuly before deciding whether to go for this

...he had never heard of BT Mobile Sense! Have you? No? Well, let me tell you a few things about it then :-) I just hope they make ... sense :o)
Mobile Sense is the name of BT's mobile phone service. The service uses the O2 mobile network and its unique selling point is that there are no set packages (tariffs) that you have to subscribe to, you just select the amount of time you'll be spending on calling landlines and mobiles and the number of text ... ...not mentioned anywhere on the BT Mobile Sense website (I contacted the helpdesk to find it out), it is worth mentioning that text messages sent to non-UK mobile numbers are NOT covered by the inclusive text messages and the cost is dependant on the country being texted.
4. The online "Service Guide" (i.e. Help) is not very good. Compared to the O2 help pages, I found the Mobile Sense ones quite basic. There is some basic information on how to use ...

...“there is none” Bt mobile being a new phone network I was very interested to what the catch was. As an offer like this doesn’t come up very often, and when it does it is normally met quickly with a scam warning so I asked 50 questions and yet found no catch, I read through the contract, no catch. I ended up walking away with a phone worth upwards of £200 for £5 a month for 12 months, and, to make sure I wasn’t rippped by extremely expensive calls ... ...it for £60, well as BT mobile are relatively new to the market they have been offering a spate of special offers to get themselves an established customer base, this was simply the most recent one; free mobile phone, £5 a month line rental for 12 months (after which you can cancel the contract and keep the phone) all this as long as you have a BT landline, unfortunately this offer is not available online but if you are near to a phones4u shop or ...

I joined BT Mobile in the fall of this year, attracted by their offer of a FREE Motorola V600 on a £19.99 per month tariff for 150 anytime minutes and 50 texts. Sounds good doesn't it??
I needed to port my number over to BT Mobile from T-mobile which it stated in the advert 'this can be done in 5-7 days. Well, this is where all the trouble started - read on!
It took me THREE months to finally be able to contact someone to port over the number. ... ...buck. The problems continued when BT started sending my bills charging me and EXTRA £10 per month and charging me for every text I sent, even though I was entitled to 50 free per month!!
To cut a long story short, I must have phoned their call centre at least 25 times trying to resolve the issue. They have barred my phone 3 times now as I refused to pay the bills until they billed me the correct amounts. The staff at the call centre [based somewhere ...

...T-Mobile is extremely expensive whereas BT offered a lower pricing option- £9.99 p/m compared to T-Mobile's ~£70 p/m! When we approached T-Mobile about this they offered us a significantly better handset than BT's handset (which was lower in terms of features than his current phone). Ringing BT to see if they had any other better handsets on offer proved useless (1) we were patched through to residential by accident - TWICE. (2) When I did finally ... ...Avoid it at all costs
Handsets in question were the Nokia 6020 (BT and T-Mobile) compared to the Sony Ericsson D750 (T-Mobile).
BT has treated me and my father badly so avoid this grief by avoiding them completely until they have matured for the Mobile Market. ...

Advantages: NONE Disadvantages: WHERE DO I START???
I placed an order on BT Mobile one Thursday evening,all went through fine and I was told I would receive it on the Saturday. Ok I thought,Saturday came and went no phone. I gave it till Tuesday when I phoned. They told me my phone had been attempted for delivery on Saturday and was being held in my local sorting office,I found this strange as I had to sign for another item on Saturday morning so why didnt the postie give me the phone. I phoned my ... ...moved home and there fore BT Mobile had to make anote of my previous address,anyway they sent it to my old address,I went to the sorting office to collect and they wouldnt give me the phone as I don't live at that address anymore and any ID I have has been changed to my new address. So to cut along story short the phone got sent back to BT Mobile 5 days later and I cancelled my order after there shambles. ...
