INTRODUCTION
The other day, my brother asked me to go out and buy an answering machine for under £40. He said that he wanted one that was capable of storing a lot of messages, is aesthetically pleasing and is a high quality brand. I looked through the Argos catolgue and then had a look through Ciao to see what I could find. I didn't see anything that I liked but I then stumbled across this one after an hour or so searching.
This machine can be used in conjuction with any sort of home telephone, old or new. It is handy if you already have a handset that doesn't have an incorporated answering machine.
BUTTONS/FUNCTIONS
The machine has many of the basic functions and features that you would expect to find on any answering machine. There is a 'Delete' button for clearing messages one by one. The is a 'Review' button that plays the messages that have been left back. You are able to 'Rewind' the messages if you have missed out on any of the details. You get a '1471' button that tells gives you the telephone number of the last caller and the time that they rang. This only works for the previous call which can be annoying sometimes. The final button is 'VIP' which I haven't used. It is standard on many machines that I have seen so it's probably not that important.
The actual answering system itself is digital. This gives the recordings high quality so you can make sure you pick up all the necessary details. I have had answering machines in the past that have been unclear and I was unable to get full phone numbers. The machine is able to store a total of 36 minutes in messages. This means you can store old messages and still have enough space to recieve new ones. You can record you own 'greeting' or message and it can be as much as 2 minutes in length. There is however a limit of 2 minutes per incoming message.
Other significant features on the machine include a speakerphone so that more than one person can hear the message being played at once. There is also a volume control if you want to keep the message to yourself. There is a red LED display panel, which shows the number of individual messages that are stored on the machine. Also, any messages left on the machine are 'stamped' with a time and the date on which they were left.
The machine can be operated using electrical power or batteries. When you buy the machine, a 9v power adapter is included and this can be plugged straight into the nearest socket. If there aren't any sockets nearby, you can use one 9v battery to operate it. There is an indicator on the machine that shows when the battery is starting to run out.
AESTHETICS
This has to be the nicest answering machine in terms of its looks that I have seen on the market. In terms of its colour and its shape and form is fantastic. It comes in a metallic silver colour, but it's a little darker than most of the modern electronics products so it stands out a bit more. It appears more of a grey colour and suits my brothers office. It is a really 'funky' shape as well. It isn't symetrical so it has a bit of a modern feel to it. None of the edges are straight so you end up with a mishaped ractangle.

It sounds pretty solid so if you were to knock it off your side table or telephone unit, it should survive the fall. It should also be very technically efficient and reliable. I expect that it will last a very long before any sort of mechanical fault occurs. I trust BT to deliver a top notch product every time.

I would certainly advise anybody who needs or thinks that an answering is benefitial, to buy this one. It comes in at less than £30 and for your money you get the BT brand name, a funky well-designed product and also an answering machine with numerous functions. It would look good in any house or office regardless of the colour schemes or style of the room. It is also really easy to use because it is carefully set out and if you are unable to use any function, you can look at the clearly set out instruction manual.
Advantages: Good make and the 1471 facility is very useful. Disadvantages: Need a battery so you don't lose messages if there's a power cut (as it's digital)
...at less than £30 and is easy to set up. It is easily available in the major electrical retailers but I have also seen it available on line. The user guide is comprehensive and, being a BT brand it is high quality. I would recommend it to anyone. ...

Ciao members have rated this review on average: very helpful Review of BT Response 75
BT Response 75 is a digital answering machine that records up to 36 minutes of messages. Plug it into the same socket with your phone and you won't miss another message, no matter whether you're too busy to pick up the handset or you are just currently out. Messages are recorded digitally - that means consistent quality, fast resetting, and no tapes to get tangled or worn out. If your answering machine is switched on and you are at home, your friends can 'beep' the machine to let you know it's them calling. If you still don't want to answer, they can leave a message. The Response 75 is also provided with the 1471 feature, which shows the telephone number of your caller - no matter whether he leaves a message or not. Message playback will help you discover the caller's number and time of the call.
