Being a BT phone there is a BT button giving instant access to several BT services at a single click, these include directory inquiries and the like.
Sound quality is very good ,as you might expect from a digital phone and the ans machine volume is quite high although I have,as yet, not found a way of adjusting the volume.

The Verve 450 series caught my eye next because of its good look (glossy black finish)and feel (substantial weight and size) so after taking a careful look at the features and testing out the feel of the thing I took a chance and bought it,and Im pleased I did.
The handsets have a good feel to them, strongly made and not too light, I hate a phone that feels too light in the hand. The key pads are not touch pads, which is also a plus in my view, The handset screen is B/W and dose all it needs to, a nice touch is that you can name the handsets ,lounge, kitchen ect, manys the time Ive put a handset in the wrong cradle with the old phones screwing up the intercom function.
Setting up the phones was very easy, the Quad set has,as you might guess, 4 handsets and they come ready registered to the base unit so its really just plug and play as far as the phones go. The Ans machine is also ready to go unless you want to record your own message in which case it takes just a few moments to set up. Interesting that there is only a 'quick set up guide' in the box and the full instruction guide is only to be found online, and you do need the full guide to get the most from these phones. Im not sure it sould be legal to sell a product without full instructions available to every buyer, which is clearly not the case here.
No where on the box dose it tell you that you will need internet access to get full use of this product.
The ans functions are a big improvement on the old set, fairly long records times at 60 sec per message and 15 min total time, remote access and full use of the ans from any of the four handsets.
The intercom function is also better, with a dedicated function button and a 2 click method of paging another handset.
Up to 200 names and numbers can be stored and the full address list can be sent to all the handsets.
This series has a text function alowing texts to be both sent and recieved, the function needs to be set up by sending a simple text to BT, the service is,at the moment ,free. Caller ID is also available but may not be free, depending on the service provider. Battrey life is very good, hours off the charger in standby and a good long time while in use, over an hour as far as I can see.
The range of the handsets is about 300m (outdoors) and 50m(indoors) as good as I've seen for these type of phone.

Price? well be one your toes about the price, a visit to Comet was worth the trip to get the feel of the phones but the price there was out of the question, about £40 more than on line. Even online the prices vary quite a bit, some look cheaper than others but stick large delivery costs on the bill. Cheapest I found (via Ciao of course) was Laskys ,£115 with free p&p. I ordered on line, they came 48 hours later,no problems. Bottom line:- good looking walk about phones and answer machine that dose what it says it will ,so as long as these actually appeal to you visually then look no further for these WILL do the job.
