BT Vision is BT's attempt to grab a market share into the digital tv sector. It is an add on service to BT Broadband
Basicly the Vision box is a freeview reciever with a 80 hour hard disc recorder built in. It also has on demand features alowing for pay per view tv when you want it.
The freeview side obviously needs to be in a freeview area. If not then this side of the box will not work. The box has 2 tuners built into it. This is so that the built in hard drive can record one channel while you watch another. It is also possible to record 2 channels at the same time but you are limited to watching either or of the 2 or playing back a previous recording. The recording side is good, the tv guide is easy to follow and select the programs you want to record. Series links can be set so that the box will record the series each day/week
The on demand side has 2 services. There is a pay per view and a subscription service. The choices are TV, Kids, Music, Film, Sport, TV Replay
The basic subscriptions are £6 each for TV, Kids or Music. TV Replay is and extra £3. All of these can be bought together via the value pack for £14.
The sport service has 2 options. On demand sport is pay per view. The subscription is £4 a month giving access to the on demand service at no extra cost. for a further £8 a month you can get setanta sports also. This is a saving of £2 if you got setanta and BT Sport seperate.
The films are only pay as you go. They cost between 1.99 and 2.99 for 24 hours. Within that time you can watch the film as much as you want.
To get this service you need BT Broadband. They give you the box for free but charge you £30 to get the service activated. If you want somebody to come and plug it in for you they charge an extra £60. It really is simple to set up though so it is not worth forking out the extra £60.
The service is worth getting if you want a digital service that is more than just a freeview box. If you don't subscribe and just use the freeview side then it won't cost you anything beyond the connection of £30. It is a cheap way of getting a freeview recorder. The on demand side though is good till the novelty wairs off. However since there is no tie in contract for the subscription it is possible to take it out for a month, watch everything you want then cancel it. When they update the programs then take it out for another month.
The big drawback is it is only available to BT Broadband customers and requires the Homehub.

Advantages: Hours and hours of entertainment (recorded telly and packages), cheaper than other providers Disadvantages: Packages could be a bit more developed (except film) but then it would cost more.
