Advantages: Effortless writing at a cracking pace
Disadvantages: Slightly weak ending for my taste

It’s not my favourite Margaret Thomson Davis book but, that being said, it’s well worth a read if you are interested in the period, skullduggery, or just very accomplished, fast-paced fiction. You’ll absorb some history, almost by osmosis, and I’m pretty sure you won’t be bored. Advantages: funny, partcularly for fans
Disadvantages: not many, except that it doesn't even MENTION the live action movie

...always wanted to date, and Arlene, a female feline who becomes the apple of Garfield's eye. As for the creator of the feline phenomenon, we learn more about Jim Davis in this new book than you would have ever imagined. The book has a collage of past memories and recollections from Davis' own collection. It talks about this high school and college days, his family and how it is strikingly similar to Jon Arbuckle's family, his dealing of success and good fortune, and of course, how proud he is of how far his dream has taken him. Like Jim Henson and Charles B. Schultz, Davis has become and American icon creating one of the most famous characters in the world. Advantages: A great read for those who like novels set in a 'classical' era
Disadvantages: Not the best Falco book, but because its the first one, it IS advisable (though by no means essential) to read it

...Silver Pigs IS a good book, but I did find parts of it vaguely dull (Falco's 'stint' working closely with silver) and so it was not quite as gripping as those further on in the series, but it was her first one in the series. This was not the Davis' book that I started off with - I actually began with Venus in Copper (an aunt bought it for me) and having enjoyed that one so much; back-tracked to the others. I don't think i missed all that much doing this; perhaps some of the subtleties of his relationship with Helena were lost; but not anything earthshattering. Davis' characters are fantastic, and I love her little introductions to them all as the 'dramatis personae'. A slightly below par book from an above average series.... Read review
