B&Ms is a bargain store similar to that of Home Bargains. The company was formed in 1976 and it's first store was opened in Blackpool. There are currently 190 B&M stores employing over 5000 staff and there are stores throughout England, Scotland and Wales.

*Where*

B&M stores are most likely to be found in retail parks and on the outskirts of towns.

*Products*

B&Ms sells a wide range of products at discount prices. They also sell end of line products and overstocks from other stores.

Health and Beauty - this is an extensive section within the store and includes various bath, makeup and skincare products and also various medicines and tablets. Brands include Dove, Radox, Colgate and Garnier. Health and Beauty items are arranged by type of product on high shelving.

Toys - this range is extended around Christmas time. The normal selection includes the likes of In the Night Garden, Thomas the Tank and Disney. Toys are well displayed on shelves. For the summer time, there is a choice of outdoor toys including paddling pools and tables and chairs for children.

Household textiles - this section has all the fancy stuff for your home including cushions, candles and huge pictures for your walls. Everything is modern and would look great in any house. The choice is huge and there is colours and designs to suit any room. Dinner sets and glasswear can also be bought.

Electrical - not my area of expertise but they do sell the likes of kettles, toasters and various machines for cooking and mixing. Everything is well displayed allowing you to see what you are buying.

Clothing - a relatively small one sided aisle section with various character pyjamas and vests etc for children. There is a small selection of adult pyjamas but the main focus is childrens. They is a great choice of baby outfits for boys and girls and everything is displayed on hangers.

Drinks and Confectionery - one of my favourite sections and by far the biggest of the store. This is where you really get a bargain with cans and bottles of various juices including Coca Cola and Sprite. You can buy boxes and packets of chocolate, kitchen cupboard foods, fridge food such as cheese and milk and lots and lots of sweets! The majority are high brands and well dated.

Seasonal sections - for the Summer, various tables and chairs and picnic products are available. There is an extensive choice of garden equipment and plants. At Christmas, expect to find a large section of the store dedicated to trees and decorations. A childrens and adults haven!

*Staff and Checkout*

Trolleys and baskets are at the front of the store and once you have picked up what you need, you can head to the checkout. Normally there are 3 or 4 counters and you simply put your items up on the belt, the staff member will scan them and you pack them yourself with the bags provided.

I have noticed staff are polite and will engage in friendly banter if encouraged too. They always say hello to my son as well which I like. Usually there is only 1 till on but if it gets busy, another staff member is quick to jump on and serve. Staff linger around the store stacking shelves and are always keen to assist should you need their help.

Payments are accepted by cash or card such as Visa/Maestro etc.

*Prices*

Being a bargain store, don't expect to pay alot for the products! Compared to supermarkets and Boots, you will get a bargain. Prices are approx for the following

Cans of 7Up 25p
Maryland Cookies 39p
Warburtons Toastie Loaf £1.09
Pringles 79p
Colgate Toothpaste 69p
Listerine Mouthwash 99p
Iggle Piggle PJs £4.99
Cushions £2.99
Thomas the Tank Ride On Train £59.99 (I have seen these sell for over £100 elsewhere).

*My Opinion*

My first experience of B&Ms was when I went to Blackpool. We always took a trip to Cleveleys and this is where B&Ms was based. I loved the bargains and cheap prices of sweets etc. I thought that was the only store until someone mentioned there was one in a retail park in the next town! Why did no one tell me this before?

Another store recently opened even close so I go there but plans for one in my own town have been agreed and it will replace the much loved Woolies shop which has been empty for just over a year now. I have also recently discovered Home Bargains and with these two bargain shops, I am in my element! So I have told you what they sell etc, now I will tell you my opinion based on my local store.

Today must have been my 10th visit to the store since it opened and I took my son with me in his buggy. Luckily the baskets fit nicely on my handles. I like the layout of store as it is spacious, I can manouver the buggy with easy and it is airy and clean.

The first aisle I came to was food for my cupboards. I am not a coffee drinker or anything but the choice is good and there is plenty of things that could stock your cupboards. The bread I usually buy is quite a bit cheaper than my local shop as well and milk/cheese etc is well priced and the fridges are clean. From this aisle, I picked up a Profiterole Mix for 39p and some Dr Oetkar (think thats how you spell it) cake topping for 49p.

Next aisle was my favourite that is of course the sweets and snacks aisle! Here I found some old favourites such as Sunkist Orange juice for 25p a can and Vimto! I picked up quite a few juice products and some cookies for hubby and swiftly moved on before I weighed my buggy down with sugary treats!

Another favourite section of mine is the beauty aisle which came next. If, like me, you love your bath and smelly products, you will love this aisle. The prices are so cheap that it puts Boots to shame! I treated myself to some Dermalogics Body Butter for 99p and some Original Source Shower Smoothie for 99p as well. The brands are mainly great and you can pick up a great bargain!

I passed by the garden section as we don't have one and it would simply depress me as we are having nice weather but there looked like a great selection.

The 2 aisles are household stuff. The cleaning and laundry products were a good price though I couldn't carry anymore heavy stuff today. I did see some nice storage boxes which I plan on buying next time as we may be moving house and we need them! The selection of cushions and fancy stuff is brilliant and everything looks so chic and modern. At the prices they charge, you could kit out a house very cheaply and still have it looking amazing. I also have my eye on a huge New York skyline picture at less than 20quid!

The final section was the toys and stationary. My son is Thomas the Tank on the brain at the moment and starts shouting on his "Tho" whenever he enters a shop he knows sells it! The toy section did not disappoint him as there was a full shelving of Thomas and it was next to Iggle Piggle his next favourite character! Well I thought it would be a bit cruel not getting him sometime considering Mummy had a basket full of sweets and juice so he selected a pack of Thomas stickers reduced to £1.49.

At the front of the store, they had a huge enclosed trampoline and various beds and tables built up. I have never bought anything as expensive before from B&Ms and cannot comment on the quality. The staff were friendly and I was served almost instantly and paid by cash.

Overall B&Ms is full of bargains and cheap but high quality products. The staff are friendly, stores are clean and spacious and I highly recommend you visit your nearest store.
