....
The only time I have had any problems with this phone was the one occasion when my nephew discovered the joy of spinning the aforementioned central wheel..... it does make a pleasing clicking sound as you turn it, but doing so non-stop until someone snatches it from your hand is not a good idea. It took a while, sitting quietly on its base station, to recover. But recover it did.
Other options which I've never explored include speed dial facility, intercom function between handsets and the handset doubles up as a remote for your B & O tv, if you're fortunate enough to own one.
The handset comes in a variety of different colours and I have been toying with the idea of buying another for that reason. But by my reckoning that would mean at least another year of guilt, so I probably won't....
There are some disadvantages; there are a limited number...

Advantages: Ease of use, quality, design Disadvantages: Price
...When you can pick up a DECT phone for about £50, the idea of paying over £300 for something that does much the same thing seems a bit hard to justify. But there is an old quote (which I can't be bothered to look up) to the effect that paying too much costs a little money, but paying too little can end up costing everything.
The Beocom is our third DECT phone, having gone through an early Philips (good but heavy) and an Ascom (even better but hopelessly unreliable - and it wasn't cheap either). At the time we bought it, there was a good selection of cheap DECT phones, but most had tiny number memories and few had Caller ID. So we walked nervously into our local B&O showroom.
We knew B&O were expensive, but we were still slightly taken aback at the price - the handsets and base units are priced separately, so a glance at the price tag...

Advantages: Sound quality is second to none Disadvantages: A bit pricey for a phone
...I bought this digital phone in November 2004 and was instantly amazed by the sound quality. The clarity is so clear, even people calling us commented on it! The units are available in grey, blue or champagne and this coating is resisant to scratches.
The features of this model include:
- Display caller ID
- Phonebook
- Redial
- Backlit display
- Navigation wheel
- Display time and phone name such as 'living room' or 'phone 1'
- Keypad lock
- Silence
- Choice of ringtones
It cost £200 and for that I got the cordless phone and charger unit. For and extra £115, I got the B&O belt clip and handsfree kit so I can type or do the washing up whilst on the phone. If you buy the handsfree kit, be careful when detaching the connector unit at the base from the phone - any force could break it.
It is a very stylish phone and I am extremely happy...
