B&Q Flatpack Kitchens

The category of this review (B&Q flat pack kitchens) is probably not the terms B & Q would choose themselves. They prefer the more seductive title of “IT Kitchens”, which differentiates their current range from anything which has gone before it. Previously you had a number of choices when ... Read review

"IT" Worked

Advantages: Quality Finish, Good Value, Nice Finishing Touches
Disadvantages: Poor Delivery, Complicated Premium Drawers

...a missing part) and the B&Q ones seem to offer a good blend of quality and price.

Armed with brochures, price sheets and specifications we sat down to decided what we wanted to go where. This may be going a little off point, but bear with me on this, but our old kitchen had quite a few faults.

1) The room wasn’t square (nowhere near, although it was supposed to be)
2) The previous owner had decided to build ...
...these reasons we decided the B&Q option would be best, because we could simply pop down to the store and buy extra units if the one’s we bought were the wrong size.

PLANNING & COST

We didn’t avail ourselves of the in store design consultant, because our measurements were only rough (because of all the bricks and aertex) and it’d be more fun to do it ourselves.

We downloaded the “planning tool” from the ... more

Customer Service

You can do it if you B&Q it - just not quickly.

Advantages: Good quality kitchen for a low price
Disadvantages: Time spent on poor delivery, shoddy goods, and misinformation

B&Q Kitchens Dear readers… you are about to embark on a terrifying journey… the terrible story of one man, one kitchen, and an awful lot of hassle… ------------------ Introduction ------------------ B&Q make kitchens. So do Homebase, Ikea etc. My wife and I decided to purchase a kitchen at B&Q as, after working out what units we wanted and what we would need, it worked out at the cheapest deal. We decided to do-it-ourselves. This is HUGELY less ...
...------------------ Styles ------------------ B&Q carry around 20 different styles of kitchen, 3 of which you can buy off the shelf (and which are fairly nasty) and between 5 and 10 of which are usually on “special offer”. The range is good, and there is a wide variety in the pricing from relatively cheap but durable laminate doors to expensive solid wood doors. We chose Modern Cherry, an order only Kitchen, which was 50% off. ----------- Planning ...

IT kitchen? IT service too!

Advantages: Very modular design, easy to combine units and fixtures together
Disadvantages: Let down by the inability of the companies to work together!

...their incompetence, right from The B&Q designer forgetting to order the survey, to the subcontracted woman who completed the survey (5 minutes with a tape measure is NOT a survey!) to the 2 month wait for a delivery. But once work "started" our problems got worse. It turns out there are 3 or 4 companies all trying to work together but failing miserably. Rok was controlling it, but subcontracted the work out to another company (on a permanent contract ...
...hinges (as Rok claim that B&Q are at fault, and it's not their problem), we need an extra worktop support leg (we had to ask specifically for one in the design stage, but the worktop fitter says two are required to support the weight of the worktop), the pull-out larder unit needs fixing, the fitters split the wall unit when screwing in the pelmet, we need extra plinth for the cooker (which wasn't included in the calculations), and the self-closing ...

Home Delivery at its Worst

Advantages: Low prices, Kitchen designer help
Disadvantages: Delivery is a farce, quality isn't great on the 'it' range

...How it works ** B&Q offer two main types of kitchen. The 'SELECT' range has a smaller choice, but is the higher quality and the 'it' range is the cheaper option. Worktops range in quality from laminate to stone and solid wood. Prices also range accordingly from £40-£1150 depending on your wants and needs. The way B&Q's kitchens work is probably the closest thing you can get to bespoke in a flat pack. You choose the carcasses/cabinets first which ...
...handles, door/drawer buffers etc. B&Q also do fitted kitchen appliances and often have offers on appliance packs. We chose a Belling gas hob, electric oven and cooker hood pack at quite a discount on buying separate. We did not necessarily need a cooker hood, but it worked out cheaper to have it with the pack than to buy the oven and hob separately. Then all you need to do is have B&Q's kitchen designer design your kitchen to how you want it. The ...

Great for DIY but take time to fit it carefully.

Advantages: Good value for money. Wide choice of units, styles and accessories.
Disadvantages: Planning service, lack of knowledgable staff.

...(approx. 8 square metres) using B&Q "IT" units and appliances. I intended to do all the work myself, and was reasonably experienced, having fitted out 3 or 4 kitchens previously. I purchased the kitchen direct from B&Q's Nursling Branch (a larger branch with the majority of kitchen items in stock) and transported it home and fitted it myself. The kitchen is a combination of units (wall and floor), with Birch veneer doors and a granite effect worktop. ...
...delivered within a fortnight. B&Q always seem to have many of their kitchen items on special offer – 20% to 50% reductions on doors and drawer fronts seem common. If your chosen style is not, I would suggest asking whether it is likely to be in future as it may be worth the wait. Assembly: All units were easy to assemble and came with clear instructions. However, no kitchen will build itself and considering the challenges inherent in fitting ...

Review of B&Q Flatpack Kitchens

Dream kitchen- or nightmare project?

Advantages: Ability to mix and match
Disadvantages: Try to sell you stuff you dont need

...we trudged to our local B&Q in search of our dream kitchen. And that is what it turned out to be- a dream! We put ourselves at the mercy of the in-store kitchen planning service, who initially tried to sell us about seven grands worth of stuff we did not want.I told them our budget, and when they stopped laughing and got up from the floor, agreed to a home visit to see if there could be any salvation. And I must admit, this was amazingly quick. ...
...much research, I decided the B&Q units were of good quality at a reasonable price. The only broken unit was the sink, so this HAD to be replaced, but all I am going to do is change the doors and draws on the others, and by the time I put new Cornice and valances around them, one would never know the difference. I am looking on ebay for the new cooker and sink, but I think I will probly get the oven and hob from B&Q, as they do an oven/grill for ...
