Yesterday morning my hair dryer made a funny noise causing me momentary panic. Taking the time (for once) to remove the back and de-lint my dryer and shaking it once or twice was about all I could think to do. Upon reflection I've had the hair dryer for about three years and if memory serves the guarantee (if I had a clue where that was, may need to go through some files) was for three years. These evening I went to use my hair dryer again (yes, I over dry my hair) and was pleased to find that everything seemed to be back to normal. Having had all sorts of issues with hair dryers straighteners in the past I've become quite fond of my sturdy Bablyiss Elegance hair dryer.
I apologise for being slightly light on details of the packaging of the hair dryer. I bought it upon my arrival in England about three years ago. It was in a box and came with the usual information and warnings (are there still people who might think it was a good idea to dry their hair while still in the shower?) and an attachment for focusing air direction. Mine was not a part of the accessories set which is currently available on Amazon. The dryer is a classy bronze colour with black cord and metal detailing exactly as shown in the photo. The cord is about 3 metres long; I can't currently find the exact length on the internet and am not about to get out a measuring tape. I've always found the length satisfactory! Three years ago I believe it cost me just over £20 as I would not have paid anymore and was purchased at Boots. A quick search of the internet reveals that you can find the dryer from £10 if you're willing to look around, but is generally listed as closer to £20. Even at £25 the BaByliss Elegance is well worth the money, comparing admirably to dryers of twice the cost.
The 2000w dryer has three heat settings and two speeds. I find that I prefer the middle heat setting as the lower is quite cool and the higher can burn my scalp if pointed at the same place for too long! As with many dryers this one comes with a cool shot button. I've never really found a use for such a thing in my day to day life, but nice to know it is available if I'm ever in the mood. My hair is currently about chin length but around the time of our wedding was over half way down my back. The dryer coped with the long hair beautifully. I spend a lot less time drying my hair when I have my dryer than when I've been borrowing my mother-in-law or mother's hair dryers on trips to their respective homes.
This dryer is also proud of ionic technology which I found very interesting when I was considering the dryer. This is supposed to stop the dryer from drying your hair out and therefore limit the amount of frizz. I have hair that frizzes if I read that there might be wet weather sometime in the next month so I really wouldn't expect any sort of ionic technology to completely eliminate frizz and it doesn't. My hair still frizzes. However, my hair is certainly less frizzy with drying than when I don't dry it or when I use the afore mentioned borrowed hair dryers. I'm always sceptical about the jargon that companies use to sell their products in order to convince us that we're not actually damaging our hair. Hair dryers are never going to be good for hair nor are straighteners, but this one seems less damaging than some I've run into in the past.
I've had three years of using my hair dryer at least three times a week, usually with more regularity. I've found it to be consistent and have never had a problem with it until that little noise yesterday. I'm hoping that noise was a fluke and I'll get a bit more use out of it yet!
