I had bought a Mothercare own brand seat that I think is designed to fit under the actual seat, but because of my odd loo shape it wouldn’t fit, so we had to put it on top of the seat which made it impossible ... ...off.
My friend had the same seat and I can’t say I was overly impressed with the fit anyway on a ‘normal’ shaped loo.
So my hunt began for a loo seat and after looking around various sites I came across 2 that looked interesting. The Baby Bjorn and the Family trainer seat. The 2nd is designed to replace your existing seat, which I decided in the end was too much to pay (£30) if it then didn’t fit our odd shaped loo.

I had bought a Mothercare own brand seat that I think is designed to fit under the actual seat, but because of my odd loo shape it wouldn’t fit, so we had to put it on top of the seat which made it impossible for my son to use alone as it kept skidding off. My friend had the same seat and I can’t say I was overly impressed with the fit anyway on a ‘normal’ shaped loo.

Most people with children would generally associate Baby Bjorn with the baby carriers they make, but on looking more they do a whole range of baby and children products which I guess are on limited availability according to who stocks/ imports them. The Swedish company was founded in 1961 by Björn Jakobson and is still family owned and operated. As an owner of a Baby Bjorn carrier I was happy to try the brand and also to pay a little extra for the promise that it would fit any seat.
So on to the Baby Bjorn Toilet Trainer.
Features.
- Designed to fit any shaped seat. - It is fully portable. - Made from recyclable PP PVC free scratch resistant plastic. - Available in 4 different colour ways, white with black, red and blue trim, and Yellowy/orange and green trim. - Suitable from 2 to 6 years old. - Easy to clean. - No sharp bits. - Soft moulded seat. - Curved splash proof front. - Handy handle.
Practicalities.
- The Baby Bjorn has a dial with is fitted under the back of the seat with adjusts by turning. This sends two grips to hold against your own toilet seat. It is easy to adjust and as it says will fit any seat particularly my odd shaped one. It doesn’t slip or move which is great. My son can jump on and off with no problems at all. - Portability is great, I took this to Spain with me rather than buying a separate travel seat, it fitted fine too. I think the portability was more important to me at the time as my son had only been toilet trained a month and it allowed his independence. - It is tough wearing and easy to clean. The plastic is softly moulded, with no jagged bits or gaps where the child can pinch fingers or legs. I am happy to let my son climb on and off by himself. - Especially for boys there is a guard at the front to stop the fountain escaping! My only criticism is that wee can sometimes run down the guard and leak under the rim on to the normal loo seat, meaning it needs a wipe. I think this is dependant on sitting position and size of the wee!! - The seat it easy for a child to put on and off by themselves. Once the dial has been set it doesn’t need doing every time although an occasional twist to tighten is a good idea. - There is a handle on the seat, which is designed for you to hang it up, but personally I have never done this. I don’t think many people would be inclined to put a hook by the loo just for this purpose. I also find the handle does get in the way a little against the back of the toilet although it doesn’t make using the seat and problem. - You can choose a colour to co ordinate with your bathroom or child!!
I paid £15 for mine from Boots online and think it a great investment for a really easy, hassle free toilet time for a toddler.
I have to say that I am so impressed with this seat that on joining ciao was disappointed to not see it amongst the products to review, so it was one I suggested, and I am happy now to be adding this review.
