(+) Funky pattern, quick to heat up, adjustable temperature, slim, lighweight (-) Have to prise them away from mum when I want to use them in the morning
Advantages: Lightweight, quick and easy to use Disadvantages: Fiddly packaging
...have ended up the with Babyliss 2025 ceramic straighteners. Although I don't, as a rule, go for the cheapest products, there really was little choice to be had. I genuinely felt this was the best product on offer - and at £19.99 very reasonably priced, though at this point I had my doubts as to whether they would be up to the twice a day straightening my hair demands!
The straighteners are displayed in clear sealed plastic packaging ... ...the same! As the Babyliss heats up to over 200 degrees I was also impressed that the 'comfort fabric' - situated on the casing at the back of the plates - really didn't heat up very much at all - enabling you to hold the straighteners further up the 'handle'. This means you have that extra bit of 'grip' so the straighteners fit over your hair nice and tightly - without burning fingertips in the process! As per the instructions, I separated 5cm sections ... more
A major crisis occured in our house on Monday morning when my old Vidal Sassoon straighteners expired. My husband tried in vain to resuscitate them, but to no avail! To give you some idea of the gravity of the situation I found myself in, I am a self-confessed straightening addict and I would never ever leave the house without straightening my hair. Although I wish I was like those supermodels who seem to fall out of bed with their hair in perfect place, I (definitely not a supermodel) fall out of bed looking like I've had my fingers in the electric socket all night! (Now I can hear you all thinking 'heat damage, heat damage' ... I know, I know ... but it's something I just have to suffer!!). Anyway ... I digress!
What's worse - it was raining! This is not good at the best of times because my hair only has to get a sniff of moisture in the air to frizz up like a thousand springs, and any outing in the rain always results in me dashing straight home to get the straighteners out again! Emergency measures ensued ... a major damping down, out with the blow dryer, lots of pulling and cussing (and amused smirks from my daughter), and although still wavy, my hair was now passible for an emergency trip to Asda to buy the first straighteners I could find. I do normally enjoy shopping around for products and like to take my time, but needs must ... this was a crisis of epic proportions ... and I needed straighteners NOW!!
So off I went to Asda, and it really was a just case of buy the best ones on the shelf - there wasn't very much choice - and so I have ended up the with Babyliss 2025 ceramic straighteners. Although I don't, as a rule, go for the cheapest products, there really was little choice to be had. I genuinely felt this was the best product on offer - and at £19.99 very reasonably priced, though at this point I had my doubts as to whether they would be up to the twice a day straightening my hair demands!
The straighteners are displayed in clear sealed plastic packaging which is great for seeing the product inside, but a nightmare to get into (especially if, like me, you want to use the product NOW !), and definitely a scissors job! So out they came, along with the instructions - which I did read thoroughly despite my haste - if only so I didn't break them within 5 minutes of having them! The instructions are very clear and straight forward - just remove the plastic film protecting the ceramic plates, plug in, switch on and wait 5 minutes for them to warm up. (I confess I probably waited only 4 minutes before trying them out ... but I could wait no longer!). The straighteners are quite sleek and simple in design, with an on/off switch on top and a red power indicator light.
The first thing I noticed was the weight - surprisingly light. It took a little getting used to because my old straighteners had plates the size of roof tiles and weighed about the same! As per the instructions, I separated 5cm sections of hair and was pleasantly surprised to find I really did only have to run the straightener once over my hair for it to be straight (rather than the 4 or 5 times my old ones took). I don't normally pay much attention to details like 'swivel cord', but now I appreciate their benefit - you can do both sides of the head without the risk of strangulation in the process! Seriously though, it really does make a difference.
And so, in a matter of only about 5 minutes (10 if you count warming up time), my hair was back to it's former glory and I could finally face the world! Out into the rain I went, and was pleasantly surprised when I returned home to find that the frizz appeared to have been tamed! For the first time ever I didn't need to straighten again. That means an extra 10 minutes to myself - and that's definitely something every girl needs. The next morning I still had to straighten (still not supermodel standard!), but my hair really wasn't as bad as other mornings and really hasn't been as bad since.
So in summary, what started out as a disastrous day ended up with my being pleasantly surprised. I am sure there are straighteners out there which take even less time to use, and may produce better results, but for the price, I really have to say the Babyliss 2025 is excellent value for money, and really does give an excellent, long lasting result.
Advantages: Heat quickly, good performance, nice budget pair Disadvantages: Results not as good as expensive ones
...until I came across the Babyliss 2025HU professional slim ceramic straightening iron on Amazon. With an RRP of £19.99 I only actually paid a partial £12.99 for these and as they were quite cheap they seemed to fit the bill in case I was to lose them on holiday. Of course they do not give me the same performance as my Remington straighteners but as they cost a whole £50 less I never expected them to.
One of the problems I’ve had in the past is the ... ...anything to my hair. My hair can be quick think and curls quite a bit if it dries when it is wet. So I was quite surprised that these reached a temperature that not only got to grips with the thickness of my hair but also got hot enough to give me a finished result I was very happy with.
It normally takes me about 15 minutes for these to really do the job on my hair. At times I wish I hate my friend Lindsey’s hair as hers is always done so much ...

Advantages: cheap Disadvantages: dont get hot enough
I've had these babyliss hair straightners over three years now and they aren't very good. I bought them because they were the cheapest pair I could find ebay. They don't get hot enough to make hair really straight. I have to go over the same bits of hair multiple times to get it almost straight and after that it doesnt get any straighter. And my hair is pretty much straight to begin with anyway, it just looks nicer when properly straight. They also ...

Advantages: they are very cheap Disadvantages: they dont get very hot
I purchased these irons because my GHD's needed repairing and in view of the fact that my hair gets a bit out of control I couldn't really go with the natural look for a possible 2 weeks. Since I was not prepared to pay a lot for a pair of temporary irons I decided these would be a good idea.
It took ages to straighten my hair with these irons as they don't get very hot at all and even when I had finished my hair was not that straight. They even ... ...look!!
I do have thick naturally curly hair that can get a bit wild especially with damp or humid weather (a bit like Monica in friends when she went to Barbados - not very sexy) so maybe these are ok if you have thinner hair that doesn't take much work??
If you are blessed with easy to style hair these are a bargain!
These can allegedly heat up to around 210 degrees which I think is the same temperature as GHD's, but I was less than convinced ...
