In the day and age where most men are either gay, married or taken, we women have to make the most effort we can to pull the leftover ones, even if they are only half decent. I know that sentence will be controversial, as some women say that they take care of their appearance for themselves, and that is partly true, but then there’s that part of us that always wants to be looked at fondly, or fancied. Anyway, back to the point. Most of my make-up ... ...so after a bit of a relapse with my hair, I decided so get off my lazy arse and do something about it.
My hair has never quite been straight; it has almost always had those really irritating “natural kinks” which really piss me off. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t have to spend time on my hair, not to mention money, which at my age is hard to find anyway!!

Most of my make-up bag is pretty pants, but I get on with it, so after a bit of a relapse with my hair, I decided so get off my lazy arse and do something about it.
My hair has never quite been straight; it has almost always had those really irritating “natural kinks” which really piss me off. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t have to spend time on my hair, not to mention money, which at my age is hard to find anyway!! After receiving the Braun straight and shape cordless straighteners for Christmas a couple of years ago and persevering with them even though they barely straightened my hair and the gas refills were £2 each, I received some Christmas money early the other day. I decided to splash out and actually treat myself amongst the wild spending spree I went on to buy others gifts.
I’d been told by a friend that these were the best non-professional straighteners I would find in the high street without having to pay £80, so of course, I was very up for buying them. I’d looked around previously to find the best prices, but when I went to Argos to buy them, I saw the queue and nearly had a heart attack. I headed off to Boots where I could get points, and the straighteners were only an extra 24p. The grand total of my purchase was £24.75 and I earned 99 advantage points, so technically it worked out better than Argos in the first place!
These aren’t just any old straighteners you know! They use the revolutionary power of steam, to both naturally straighten and preserve your hair at the same time, therefore not leaving you with frazzled hair. They also have a unique “shot of steam” function which means you get extra straightening power just by pressing the button. Another handy extra with the straighteners were the two attachments: A comb and one to smooth your hair. These slide around the plates of the straightener and are easy to get on and off. The brand new version which I bought also has white ceramic plates, which are non-stick and help to get a smoother finish.
So, onto actually using the straighteners. They are so easy to hold and maneuver through your hair, so it becomes a lot easier to work your hair into a style. You can easily create flicks at the ends of your hair. I’m a bit of a novice myself, and my feathered, layered cut looked just like it did the first time the hairdresser did it, so I can truly say I was chuffed!
In order to use the steam functions you must first fill the water tank with water. This is relatively easy as the tank just slides off the side and once you open the plug, you just fil it up and slide it back on.simple!
The little booklet you get with the straighteners recommends that you separate your hair into sections and straighten sections about 5cm big each time, so that the straighteners can get your hair really straight. I have to say they worked really well on my hair, which is generally thick and unruly, so I’m sure that no mater what type of hair you have they will work, with perhaps the exception of afro’s, which I’m not sure, as I can’t say I’ve tried.
After straightening my hair the style has lasted for around 36 hours, even lasting overnight which is an achievement considering how much I generally toss and turn!
If you or your children have unruly hair, then I would certainly recommend this as a Christmas present. So mums surprise them, and husbands, wrap it up nicely and insist you weren’t trying to hint that they have awful hair!!
Thanks for the read, any comments are very welcome. Laura xx
Oh and by the way, I aint pulled yet, so any offers... ok, i won't push it...
Advantages: Straightens hair! Disadvantages: Water can escape and scolds
I purchased these straighteners about 2 months ago on special offer at Boots of £13. I believe it generally costs around £25 though. I decided to buy some straighteners after borrowing them from a friend and discovering that they really do work to make my hair more slinky and manageable.
This is a steam straightener and has a blue water chamber which you remove from the front (slide out), fill with water, and click back into place. Once the straightener ... ...from holes in the upper plate and there is a button on the top of the straightener to press to give an extra shoot of steam for particularly awkward hair.
The instructions warn that you should not keep this button pressed down as it can result in boiling water shooting out. I would add that if you do not wait for the machine to warm up properly (until there is visible steam coming from the top plate) water may spurt out and burn you.
The plates ...

Advantages: brilliant and easy to use Disadvantages: none
I have been using this for about a year now, I have short hair and am attempting to now grow it long, so in order to avoid hair disasters such as the dreaded "bad hair days" I use this as soon as I have washed and blow dried my hair.
This is an excellent hair sraightnener to use, it was comparitively cheap compared to those on the market and on top of that the plats are coated in ceramic which means it is not that harsh on the hair. Personally i'm ... ...because I dont want to fork out that much in one go. I have used the GHD ceramic ones and to tell you the truth there is not that much of a difference in the end result, the babylis one gives you a more natural look and even if you have straightened your hair and gone clubbing you dont end up looking frizzy at the end of the night, which is one of the worst things which can happen.
The babylis hair straightener comes with two changable ceramic coated ...

Advantages: Good price and easy to use Disadvantages: Can get a little too hot so be careful!
...hair straightners. I chose the Babyliss coz they were a good price and they use steam to help straighten your hair, which means they are not as harsh. There is a little compartment that you fill up with water that cause the steam to come through the ceramic plates. I use my straighteners everyday and find i need to fill up the compartment once a week. It only holds a little of amount of water but it does go a long way. Make sure you dry the compartment ... ...straightners(for electrical safety reasons). I was pleasantly suprised at how quick they heat up, perfect for in the mornings when im rushing to work! They worked a treat on my hair and are very easy to use. The end result is brilliant, almost as good as stepping out of a salon!! The only thing i would say is they can get very hot, so watch yourself! And they take a little while to cool down after use, so be careful where your store them.
