I really wanted to buy hair straighteners that would tame my frizzy and thick hair into sleek and glossy hair to be proud of! I bought these straighteners about 2 years ago when they were quite pricey. (£50 from wholesalers, although they were about £80 in the shops!) Looking back they really were worth the price.
When I was looking to buy straighteners, the craze was for ceramic coated but these are thermaglass plates. The box shows that thermaglass plates provide a more silky and straight finish whereas the ceramic plates are not as smooth therefore, the finish is less silky.
I had a babyliss curling tong which was brilliant so I knew the quality of the straightener would be good as well. However, I now think my straightener is even better than my curling tong!
Advantages -
controlled very fast heat up - around 1 minute
complete temperature control (see below)
cool tips (very handy for those like myself who have a habit of burning themselves!),
strong rubber grip,
angled handle which makes it easier to glide through the hair, * indicator lights - on, off, heat up,
removable comb which is not my favourite feature so I take it off,
straightener stand which is such a good idea and makes sure we don't burn the carpet! Also, the stand helps straighteners stay hotter for longer when the mains switch is turned off - good for touching up hair before you go out without having to turn it back on!
1 1/2" thermaglass plates- especially suited to medium to long hair.
These straighteners can be used on all hair types:
140 C delicate, fine and treated hair 160 C medium hair 180 C thick and wavy hair 200 C salon temperature
I personally would recommend 180 C for thick hair, it really does a good job at reducing the frizz and straightening my wavy/curly hair. One of the best features is being able to change the temperature - the sections of hair that don't need a high heat, I use about 160 C but then I up the heat to 180 C for the rest of my hair. For the really stubborn sections of hair, I occasionally use 200 C but I think it is a little high for regular use.
I normally use the straighteners on washed and dryed hair for the best effects. I use a straightening serum which really helps keep the look after I have used the straighteners.
I used the straighteners once on slightly damp hair but I don't think it is a good idea even though you can use it on wet and dry hair. I felt it was burning my wet hair even though it wasn't but I did not try it again.
When I straighten my hair for a night out or party, people do ask what straighteners I used because they know my hair type is certainly not straight. I find there is very little damaged although my hair is dryer after using them. I would not recommend you use them daily.
Overall, they are excellent straighteners and can now be purchased from the internet for about £20. They are not as good as GHDs but for people who only want to straighten their hair occasionally these babyliss straighteners are a good investment, easy to use and produce silky straight results.
Advantages: Long cable, 3 years guarantee, Straightens brilliantly Disadvantages: None
...brand. As a brand, Babyliss make loads of different beauty products like curlers, hairdryer, foot spa, etc. Throughout my life, I've had a number of Babyliss' products and they have never failed me.
The price. I would never go for the cheapest straighteners again but I can't afford to pay £100 (at least) for GHDs. I need quality at an affordable price. These were originally 44.99 but at Argos, they were reduced to £22.99. I know you can get these ... ...wait a week to receive the straighteners.
The Features. ThermaGlass. I've never seen this before. The word stopped me and made me look again at these straighteners. Also the choice of different temperatures is another reason why I considered it.
I decided these were the ones for me so I went to the till and bought them. It was the last ones. * What does the ThermaGlass do? *
They are ultra smooth and they are meant to glide through your hair for ...

Advantages: Straightens great without damaging! Disadvantages: ? Haven't found any!
Mmmm? I have just read through a few of my old reviews having gotten the hang of it a bit better now, and I thought that I should have a go at re-writing this one as it was a bit lacking! So here goes....
Why I got them:
I have REALLY frizzy hair which I don't seem to be able to much with. I have used other straighteners and they do not get my hair that straight, or they take me ages to get the desired effect. Some that I have used have been really ... ...keep the angle at which you are pulling them down straight. I also tend to burn myself with the bulky ones by trying to get to those awkward bits!
A few people told me to get more expensive straighteners, such as GHD's etc. Unfortunately I am on a tight budget and cannot afford such luxuries.
Just as I thought that I would have to spend the rest of my life with a huge frizz ball on my head I spotted these on my monthly trip to COSTCO. They were ...

...women should posses a pair- Babyliss Thermaglass straighteners!
These really are great. I don't know how I survived without them! I bought them for £75, a good price I thought! But the price has now dropped to around £60, so your getting a bargin price for salon quality straighteners. They are sleek in design, with Thermaglass plates ( a mirror-shine surface that glides through hair for minimum damage ) and a fab holder to hold them while hot, helping ... ...the wall, so no more moans from him indoors about burning his toes!
For the SAME price you get the option of two sizes, one for short hair, one for long. The difference is the size of the plates. Bigger for long hair so there still hot when you get to the ends of your hair. These are the ones I bought and they get the job done in half the time it used to take me with my slim ceramic straightners!
As you would expect for the money they come with ...

Advantages: Easy to use, heat very quickly Disadvantages: Give you split ends, the protector strips wear off
As I couldnt afford expensive GHD straighteners I opted for the next best on the market: Therma Glass.
They heated up well and had different heat settings depending on what type of hair you had and what you wanted out of them. They can be used on wet hair at lower heats to dry and straighten hair in one go, but be warned!! If you have dry, damaged or out of control hair THIS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA! I looked like a gone wrong lion when I used them on ... ...do straighten hair well but it tends to take a few tries to get it this way. On the edges of the glass are soft velvety strips for gripping hair and protection but they do wear away very quickly especially if used on damp hair. They come with a stand for heating up and cooling down but the suction cups underneath it don't stick very well which can end up with a singed carpet and damaged straightners in the worst case. Over all though they are a good ...

Advantages: poker straight hair, fast warm up, detachable comb, 4 hair clips, long cable Disadvantages: wierd smell, wide plates
A really good buy for about 30 pounds. It comes with 4 hair clips to use to partion your hair which is really handy if you want that professional look. Straighteners glides through hair really easily and detachable comb allows the hair to be straightened without combing the hair first, as it goes through knots and tangles as well - a real plus if u have long hair. The extra long cable is good too so you can be mobile. Warm up only takes just a few ... ...is good as with any higher temperatures hair tends to burn and the quality of your hair rapidly deteriorates. However there was a wierd smell when i first used it but it disappeared after a few uses. Plates are wide enough to do lots of hair at once - which is good if you are in a rush - but if you are looking to curl your hair with the straighteners as well then it may be a bit difficult but still possible. generally a good buy for 30 quid. ...
