My other half used to be a professional hairdresser before she had our little lad and she bought this cheap from the salon where she used to work, as the manager there was selling off some old stock and buying in new stuff. This floorstanding dryer normally retails at about £45 but we managed to snap this one up at the bargain price of just £25.
It is tall and quite cumbersome but my other half loves to use it to set her hair (and my mother in law's hair) and she happily sits underneath it in her curlers (or in my other half's case with her cap on her head touching up her highlights). It is tall at about five feet and made of plastic and has four feet for the base. It is strong and sturdy and does not topple over at all.
My other half occasoinally does friend's hair for them at our house and she uses this all the time for that purpose, preferring it to the normal handheld hairdryer method. I have also used it myself to dry my own hair and read my Practical Fishkeeping magazine and it is very relaxing to do this.
This dryer does have a professional grade hood and is the type you would expect to find in a proper hairdressing salon. It has an adjustable height to make it as high or as low as you want it to go. It has two airflow settings and two temperature settings and this is operated from the dial on the side of the appliance. It is not particularly noisy (unless you are actually sitting underneath it, in which case it is impossible to hold a conversation with anyone else in the room).
It is an impressive 1200 watts and looks stylish. It is easy to store and we keep it under the cupboard down in the basement when it is not in use.
Greatly recommended even if you are not a professional hairdresser.
