Babyliss Root Boost

I bought my fabulous Babyliss Root Boost online ages ago for £34.99. I have a number of different kinds of hair appliances, and this is just one of many I own! I have quite thick long hair, but it can have a tendency to go a bit flat near to the root and so this was the primary reason I bought this appliance, hoping it might give me the volume I needed. I was going to a friend’s wedding, so I bought this well in advance, to make sure I knew how to use it properly and also to ensure I was going to be able to achieve the look I wanted on the day.

This is a strange little gadget when you first see it. It’s black all over on the outside and has bright pink ridges on the inside. It looks just like one of those old fashioned crimpers we all used to have a few years ago when I was in secondary school and everyone was into the odd wavy look! The idea is simple. You use the crimpers near to the root of the hair to add volume and I have discovered through trial and error that it works much better (and lasts longer) if you do only really small sections of hair. It can be quite time consuming, but the end result is really worth it, I promise.

The Root Boost has three settings but I have only ever used the hottest so I have no idea what the other two are like or how they work. It’s quick to heat up – about thirty seconds or so will be enough for them to be fully heated. The reason I only use the hottest setting is, because as I say, I do have very thick coarse hair, and I have found from using other heated hair appliances that the cooler settings generally just do not work for me at all.

As the plates are very slim (15mm), this is really easy to use and gives fantastic results. It certainly adds volume, if that is what you are after! I can create lots of different looks with my Root Boost crimpers. Now I have the knack of using them, I can create a ‘just got of bed style’ in no time at all, by doing only a few small sections of hair, mainly near to the crown of my head. If I am going out for the evening, however, or want an ‘up do’ with added volume, then it will take me longer to get the desired effect.

I also find that the volume lasts for ages with these stylers and it won’t fall flat as soon as you leave the house and go into a gust of wind. Obviously, it is better if you can use a boosting serum / mousse beforehand, but even without any additional creams or hair lotions, the Root Boost will really add a massive amount of volume to your hair.

Finally, they also have a very well designed swivel cord so that no matter which way you twist or turn your hands whilst styling your tresses, you won’t find yourself getting all knotted up in the cord.

I simply love this appliance and use my Root Boost so regularly now that I’d be lost without it. I really do recommend this appliance if you want natural looking hair with added volume.
