Advantages: A lovely refreshing drink! Disadvantages: Too many cheap imposters!
...remember my first introduction to Bacardi White Rum. I was eighteen and at that awkward age where I just did not know what I should be drinking! I suppose it is usual to follow in your parents' footsteps when it comes to choosing an alcoholic beverage, but my mother's favourite tipple was, unfortunately, sherry! Girls of my age didn't drink sherry no way!
I tried Southern Comfort and Lemonade, which was actually quite nice, but after ... ...one of them was drinking Bacardi and Coke, so I changed my order! Out came our drinks! Mine came in a tall glass with loads of ice. On the edge of the glass was a twist of orange and a twist of lime! I picked it up and took a long sloooow swallow wow, excellent! This was nice! Never had I experienced a drink of such thirst quenching excellence! I was hooked, and have been for many years now!

I remember my first introduction to Bacardi White Rum.
I tried Southern Comfort and Lemonade, which was actually quite nice, but after a few had been consumed, it became quite sickly even with my sweet tooth!
Campari attracted me because I liked the colour (typical girl!), but it tasted soooo GROSS! Still, I stuck with it for a couple of weeks LOL No, Lorraine Chase didn't have anything whatsoever to do with it, and I didn't drink it at Luton Airport! (sorry young ones, this has probably just gone way over your heads!)
Next came cider! I would drink a half pint of the stuff and be squiffy for the rest of the night! I have no idea why it had this effect on me, but I have heard it described as rot gut! My boyfriend at the time thought it was great! Never had he been out with such a cheap girl!!!
I stood outside the bar of our local pub one night, and looked around at all the drinks. I decided to try Scotch & Dry (I heard somebody else ordering it!). This was nice so I had a few of those. Next I heard somebody ordering Vodka and Orange, so I thought yep, I'll give that one a go, and so I tried a few of those! A little later somebody ordered Malibu, so I tried one of those, and at the end of the night, I heard through fuzzy ears somebody ordering Pernod and Lemonade, so I tried one of those! That was it; I staggered out of the pub (don't ask me how because I can't tell you!), and was so ill that it turned me off alcohol of any kind for quite some time! I can't remember how I got home that night!
Next time I went out I ordered a pineapple juice and tonic water. This was lovely, so I stuck with this for quite a few months!
It was one of those glorious summer days. You know the kind, where the air is still, the sky is blue, and you can hear a cricket ball being hit on the village green whilst you sit outside a little country pub in the heart of the Essex countryside! As the birds sing, you see a squirrel scurry across the lawn and up the nearest tree, scared out of its hiding place by a couple of kids running around playing tag in the sunshine. In the road there is a heat haze shimmering! Yes, you know what I mean a HOT day! The kind of day where a man just HAS to get a pint of cool beer down his gullet! Well guess what? A girls just gotta have something too!!!
Well, I was hot and thirsty. My boyfriend asked me what I wanted to drink, and I was on the verge of saying my usual "Pineapple and Tonic Water please!" I had been out with friends recently and one of them was drinking Bacardi and Coke, so I changed my order!
One thing that I noticed about Bacardi was that I never got drunk! It seemed to suit me superbly. I wonder if everybody has a drink that suits him or her is meant for them a bit like a lover?
I remember when I first went on holiday to Spain. They always served Bacardi & Coke in lovely tall glasses with tons of ice often with a fruit cocktail on a stick gorgeous!
I have sampled other types of white rum over the years, and although cheaper by and large, there never seems to be the same quality of flavour! I must admit though I would never drink Bacardi on its own, because it tastes absolutely horrible! It is the mixture of Bacardi with Coke which holds the magic for me. I have tried Bacardi with various other mixers lemonade, dry ginger, tonic but they all tasted absolutely yucky!!!
On one occasion I did get drunk on Bacardi, but only once. This was in the year 2000 when we moved from Essex to Norfolk. We had a house warming party, and I got a bit carried away, drinking glasses consisting of half Bacardi and half Coke huge measures! I disappeared very early in the evening, and could be heard by everybody at the party over the baby monitor in the living room, alternately heaving and crying, and soon afterwards snoring my head off!!! Luckily my guests were all family!
One of the most annoying things about buying Bacardi & Coke in pubs is when they dump a chunk of lemon in it! To my mind lemon just isn't the thing to have with Bacardi! My favourite is, as I said at the beginning of this opinion, four cherries skewered on a cocktail stick! Why four? I hear you ask because I can give one to each of my two little children, and still have two left for myself! Incidentally, sometimes I buy a small plastic bottle of Coke - the ones with little hollow bumps all around the bottom - I like to take a swig and then pour in a good measure of Bacardi! If you then drop five cherries into the bottle, they will all sit very nicely in the little hollow bits at the bottom! I know I'm nutty, but I can't help it!!
A one Litre bottle of Bacardi White Rum will cost you around £15.00, but shop around as you can often find it a few pounds cheaper when offered in certain promotions! Of course, supermarkets own brand of white rum will be between £11.00 and £12.00 for a litre, but for me they don't quite have that lovers touch!
Advantages: You will learn how to make a Cuba Libre Disadvantages: You might have a 70s flashback
...milk and a bottle of Bacardi White Rum. Soon the blender was singing. My parents made a rare exception and my 12 year old palate was treated to the most wonderful of foo-foo drinks. The coconut and pineapple taste was quite sweet but the rum set them off so that it was not overwhelming. It was also pleasantly frozen, so that it could cool even the most ferocious Caribbean sun. Best of all, it just tasted tropical. Fifteen years later I found myself ... ...Bacardi Rum is manufactured in Catano, Puerto Rico which is a suburb of San Juan. The original Bacardi Rum was founded in Santiago, Cuba in 1862 by Don Facundo Bacardi. The Bacardi family chose the bat as symbol of their heritage for the Taino Indians of Cuba thought that bats were a symbol of good luck and prosperity. The company continued to grow and thrive until the year 1960 when the Cuban government seized the companys assets. The company then ...

"Gonna sip Bacardi like its ya birthday..." as 50 Cent said. Oh yes, that pastime is a good one, a nice bit of white rum is good for any occasion.

A quick recipe in full then:
300ml Bacardi
300ml Gin
300ml Vodka
300ml Cola
50ml lemon juice (or 300ml lemon drink)
Mix all together. Enjoy with ice, serves three. Note this is 36 UK alcoholic units and a third would account for 12 units (weekly recommended maximum, 2003 figures: Men ...

Advantages: Ok price and relatively smooth. Disadvantages: A bit bland and uninteresting.
...real stumper is this...why is Bacardi rum so popular? Not just in this country but all over the world.
The drink itself comes from Cuba. "Bacardi" is one of the top 3 recognised brands in the world (Coca-cola and Microsoft, beating it respectively). The drink is nothing more than a white rum. Doesn't sound exciting, does it? A White rum. Colourless, practically odourless (just a hint of coconut) and tasteless. A near perfect spike in someone's drink. ... ...near as popular as the Bacardi collossus. I'm being a bit heavy-handed here. Bacardi rum isn't THAT bad. It's OK. A bit bland, a reasonable price and complements coke quite well. Neat, Barcardi is very smooth and could easily be drunk on it's own (please bear in mind that a drink is at its most potent when drunk neat!). I suppose the reason why Bacardi is so popular is because it is a break from normal vodka and coke. Bacardi normally costs about ...

Advantages: beautifully smooth drink Disadvantages: tend to get cheap imitations in pubs - they taste awful
I was introduced to Bacardi because that was what my dad drank and my first taste at home was one of disgust the way most 14 year olds react at their first taste of real alcohol. Not that my parents let me drink loads or even drank in the house much themselves, but they did believe that part of the attraction is the unknown and this was a safe way of me trying a sip at a New Year party. My dad liked his with coke which may be why I wasn't very taken ... ...The next time I tasted Bacardi was at a party where the Vodka was finished and I thought what the heck - well you know what it's like when you're young. I had it with lemonade and discovered I did actually like it. Of course these days most of the younger drinkers have tasted the Breezers range so here's an insight to my views on this drink - please remember though - drinking too much is bad for you and you may end up with all sorts of health problems ...

Advantages: Gets me pissed, doesn't taste too bad. Disadvantages: Doesn't taste fantastic.
...off licence by me. So bacardi it had to be, the classic glass bottle with its white lid and label. The packaging is nothing special but it's plain, simple and instantly recognisable.
Bacardi is a white rum which has been produced in Cuba for over 100 years. It's nice alone, with various mixers or cocktails, as well as being the main content of the popular girly night out drink of flavoured bacardi breezers (the lime one is nicest). I became partial ... ...the UK, a measure of bacardi in the pub will cost in the region of £1.50-£2.50, while bottles are avaliable in various sizes in the off licence and supermarket. What is an Alcopop I hear you asking, well my fears used to be that children would think they were alright to drink because of the word pop in it, but if you think about it where on any Alcopop bottles does it mention the word Alcopop.
There are a few Alcopop's on the market such as Smirnoff Ice, VK etc but I think the best of them all has to be the Bacardi Breezer and believe it or not I don't normally drink Bacardi I am more of a Vodka person myself.
Bacardi Breezers are a blend of Bacardiwhiterum mixed with various fruit juices, believe it or not Bacardi Breezer were practically the first Alcopops on the market but although they first arrived on our shelves back in 1993 they didn't become very popular until around 1995/96.
You can buy them either as a single bottle or in packs of 4 or 8 and each bottle is 275ml. They ...

If you have read some of my previous opinions you make be aware that Rum is my drink of choice, with Captain Morgan Dark Rum (Black Label) being my favourite and BacardiWhiteRum being my current choice.
I personally do not have anything against other brands of rum, especially the Dark rums and therefore it was without hesitation that I decided to have this at a friends house over the last weekend.
The complexion and colour is dark brown but slightly lighter than the Captain Morgan Black Label. One thing that I noticed about this rum was when I poured in into the glass and before I mixed it with Coke, the aroma was very strong. I could get the smell even though I was holding the glass at least 18” away from my face. The smell is a nice one and is different to other rums. Certainly you get the usual rum smell but this is also ...
Advantages: Very nice and refreshing drink Disadvantages: Don't taste very alcholic so easy to drink too many

You can buy them either as a single bottle or in packs of 4 or 8 and each bottle is 275ml. They come in various flavours which can be easily identified by different coloured labels. You will need a bottle opener to open the bottles and most people drink straight from the bottle, although some pubs and clubs wont allow this. Each bottle has a 5% alcohol content.
A safety tip to all of you out there, if you are drinking from the bottle please be aware that people can still slip things into your drink, when I am out I tend to stand holding my bottle with my thumb over the top.
As mentioned above they come in ...
