Anyone who regularly reads my reviews will be now aware that I'm quite a fan of herbal remedies for things I feel I can help myself with. Don't get me wrong I'm not a complete puritan and if I'm ill I go to the Doctors and take medicines and tablets as prescribed but for day to day issues such as sleeping tablets and when I'm low in mood and stuff I like to dabble with natural remedies and I own loads of these types of things.

Before purchasing this, Hornbeam wasn't anything I was aware of. I was however aware of Bach because I do love the brand and I picked this up on a whim really and it cost me about £3.50 for a small bottle. When it comes to buying remedies such as these I do find it hard to pick stuff out though because there is so little information given on the bottles however I am someone that likes to blend concoctions up so I buy them and then go to the Bach website and check out their promises and go from there!

The Packaging:

10ml dark brown bottle with a black screw on/off lid to the top of it that has a glass long tube attached to the inside of it and to get the liquid into that on the outside of the cap/lid there is a pink rubber thing you pinch. Around the bottle there is a light cream label and on that in dark green writing I'm told it is Bach 'Original Flower Recipes' Hornbeam (Carpinus Betulus). Other information given on the label tells me how to use it, the size is stated and contact details for Bach are given. It's a nice simple to use bottle and it's informative enough to the point your told how to use it however on Bach products they never give you a description of the product so that can be a pain, particularly if you don't go on the Bach website prior to check what would suit you best first.

Directions For Use:

Single Remedy Use: 2 drops in water and sip at intervals or add to 30ml mixing bottle containing still spring water.
Multiple Remedy Use: Add 2 drops of each remedy (max 7 remedies) to a mixing bottle and use as above.

Me Using It:

First off let me tell you about what this particular remedy is meant to help you with!

Uncertainty:

'For those who feel that they have not sufficient strength, mentally or physically, to carry the burden of life placed upon them; the affairs of every day seem too much for them to accomplish, though they generally succeeded in fulfilling their task. For those who believe that some part, of mind or body, needs to be strengthened before they can easily fulfil their work'.

Well that describes me to a tee at the moment and like I said already I buy remedies and blend them and the knack to that is to use remedies that compliment eachother of course and not one's that work against eachother.

Now I have used this alone of course and I have blended them though one bit of confusion has fogged my brain! On the bottle it says this can be blended with another 6 remedies but on the website I'm told to use no more than 5 remedies! Confusion again from Bach and this is a small issue I do have with this company.

Anyway I have used this as a single dose and just added a couple of drops of the transparent light gold coloured essence into a glass of water (no measurements are given so just use your common sense) and I have sipped it throughout the day and I have blended it and also with this particular remedy you can drop it neat onto the tongue, or rub it onto the lips, behind the ears, or on the temples and wrists if you want to and you can't overdose on this as it's only a flower remedy and not a drug one, so I have used it in all the above ways and rather often.

I really like this one! Dropped into water it doesn't discolour it and it doesn't really taste at all but of course that depends how much water you decide to use (I use a fair bit to avoid the taste). I have in a emergency dropped some onto my tongue and sure it don't taste wonderful but it isn't vile either and the taste soon leaves your tongue anyway. I have when traveling dabbed this on to my skin and it's none oily and none staining and above all doesn't smell or make me sticky!

Verdict:

As I have already said I really like this and it was one that when I bought it I didn't think it would be all that good...going on the name of it type of thing.

Whichever way I use it though appears to work for me and it lasts ages too! I find this really does help unfog and clarify my mind. I haven't been very well in general with a potassium deficiency, my eating disorder is kicking up a fuss again and I haven't been sleeping very good and top that with rushing about with a mate trying to sort her life out there are times when I have felt a little low in my mood and like someone has popped my bubble and I don't know if my body will continue working.

This however descends calm on me and I become more clear thinking and logical and able to make decisions better. If need be I mix it with Oak and Wild Oat (also from Bach) and I like the way I can blend my own remedies that won't hurt me in any way shape or form. I really do suggest anyone tries this with a busy life and plays about with it a bit too to see what ways work for you and gives you the strength to carry on as it does me!

Available in all good supermarkets and chemists etc and 10ml of this usually costs about £3.50 a bottle and the 30ml bottle costs about £6.75 a bottle (in Boots).
