Baileys Original Irish cream

What is normal lovable Baileys?
********************************************
Baileys is made from a blend of Irish whiskey and cream. The cream used in the drink comes from Avonmore Waterford Plc. This is a co-operative dairy located in the ‘Golden vale’ fertile farmlands about 70 miles outside of Dublin. Only fresh cream delivered daily is used and it has to blended within hours of arriving at the distillery. Added to this mix is a small portion of vanilla and chocolate with the sweetning provided by sugar which comes from sugarbeet also grown and processed in Ireland.
Baileys use over 4 million litres of Irish cream a year to make their liqueur, this amounts to 4.3% of Ireland’s total milk production.

Company information:
******************
Baileys was introduced in 1974 by Gilbeys of Ireland. At that time, it was a revolutionary new product without any existing peers in the marketplace. The popularity of Baileys has become so widespread that now the drink is sold in 130 countries and an estimated 1,600 glasses consumed every day.

Baileys the company is now part of the happy sisterhood of companies operating under the conglomerate Diageo plc.

Diageo also owns the Burger King chain and Guinness UDV who are responsible for the production and distribution of a huge range of brands, including Johnnie Walker Scotch, Guinness stout, Smirnoff vodka, J&B Scotch, Baileys, Tanqueray gin and Malibu.
When they took over the smaller conglomerate Seagram, they also took over the brands; Captain Morgan rum, Crown Royal Canada whisky, Seagram's Seven Crown American whisky, Seagram's VO Canada whisky and B&G wines.

What does it taste like?
**************************************************
Absolutely brutal! There are no two ways about it; it is the worst god-forsaken muck ever to be sold to a gullible public under the guise of being something to drink in their leisure time.

(Joke, I swiped this from my Bailey’s Glide op to make sure you were still awake)

This is a rich sweet creamy drink with the small kick of the whiskey taste at the end. The first mouthful is like the most gentle loving sensation down the back of your throat, “my God”, (or whatever Deity you are partial to) you think to yourself, “this is the stuff, this is mothers milk”

That’s the danger, you cannot conceive anything this gentle and lovely getting you drunk, “hah” (or whatever words of derision you are partial to) you will exclaim “14% my foot, I could drink this all night”

So you do and you fall over. You have been warned.

I have an aunt who does not drink anything containing alcohol. (I am not making this up) Yet every Christmas she comes to our house for dinner and has a huge glass of Baileys filled as near to the rim as my Father can manage. She has seen the percentage proof on the bottle but cannot conceive anything so nice containing alcohol, which tastes horrible, according to her. There is some logic you cannot argue with and she processes most of it : )

As a last story on this, I used to work in a country pub at week-ends to supplement my student existence and every Friday evening during the harvest season, this particular farmer, let’s call him Jack, came in with a bunch of hired labourers after working in the fields all day. They would drink an average of about 8 pints each and then when the bell for last orders went quickly order a ‘drop’ (a short) before calling it a night. Jack always ordered a Baileys (no ice, but would I have a bottle in the fridge, which I always did especially for him) while the rest of his crew went for a variety of scotches or whiskeys. Someone asked him once why he ordered the Baileys instead of a “man’s drink”, his reply was that he “wanted to taste nice for the missus”. This was a 50 year old man married for over 30 years………Now there is a romantic scenario for the Bailey’s ads!
