Anyone who knows me will wonder why I am writing a review about anything to do with coffee, because I just don't drink the stuff, well maybe once a year if I happen to be somewhere where there isn't tea on offer.
But Baileys were giving away a free sample of their new flavour, which just happened to be coffee, and being the sort of person who never turns down a freebie, I thought I'd give it a go.
Nutritional Information
I haven't got any nutritional information to give you because there's nothing on the bottle, but it's a cream liqueur so I doubt it's a slimming product!! The alcohol content is 17% by volume, so it's not a very strong drink.
The Bottle
The bottle looks very similar to the Carmel Baileys bottle, in fact at a distance you might be hard pushed to tell the difference, it's only when you get up close that you can see that it has Coffee written underneath the swirl picture (the pictures are different, but again very similar looking). I think it could be a bit clearer, with the mint flavour you can see the difference better because it's printed in green, but the original, caramel and coffee are all very similar in colour.
Look and smell
The drink looks slightly darker than the original Baileys, and it's about the same viscosity, which is slightly thicker than water, but not quite as thick as cream. It doesn't smell particularly coffee like, in fact it doesn't have a very strong smell at all, you can smell the alcohol but that's about it.
Drinking it!
I tend to drink Baileys neat, I know you can make different recipes with it, but I just like it on its own, without even a piece of ice. When you drink it like this, you get a lovely warming feeling as you swallow it, and you only have to take small sips at a time to get this feeling. In fact I'd suggest taking smaller sips, because if you gulp down huge mouthfuls not only will is disappear too quick, but you'll end up feeling like you could become a fire breather if someone lit a match too close. You'll also find that it coats your lips a little as you drink it, leaving a nice warming feeling there to.
The Taste
The most important thing is obviously the taste. And to be honest the coffee flavour is not that noticable, you can tell it's there, but it's not over powering at all. Even for someone like me who's not overly keen on coffee the taste is absolutely lovely and nice and creamy. So lovely in fact that I had to buy myself a full sized bottle, which I guess makes me a marketing man's dream, just send out a cheap free sample and they'll make a bit of cash.
Buying it
At the moment Asda have this bottle on special offer at £11, Tesco are a bit dearer at £12.99, unless you buy two and then they're a tenner each.
I would definitely give this a try if you like cream liqueurs, or they'd make decent Christmas presents if you have anyone who likes these sorts of drinks.
