Balamory........

Balamory is a programme that is on the CBeebieschannel and is aimed at pre-school children. The show is enormously catchy with brilliant songs that you will be singing all day. The show is based around a small town in Scotland which has different characters that are all known for different things.

PC Plum is the local police officer, he lives in the white house and I must say he is my favourite character purely because of his cool song (the characters each have their own song). "I'm PC Plum and I'll tell you where I'm from, I'm your policeman and I'll always be your chum. With my magnifying glass I can look between the grass at all the tiny beasties, wee look at them run...". As a policeman, he is a bit of a joke but all the villagers seem to rely on him.

Miss Hooley is the local nursery school teacher who lives in the green house (and wears colour matching clothes). She usually starts the show by telling us what the weather is doing in Balamory and starting the show with a story.

Archie is the local inventor and he lives in a pink castle and wears a pink kilt. He has to be my least favourite character as his inventions are usually rubbish and to me I think he looks a little bit of a dodgy character!

Penny and Suzie own the village shop, which also doubles as the local café. Penny is a young lady in a wheelchair and Suzie is an old woman who is meant to be a good cook. These two have newer songs that are rather funky and Jack just loves to shake around to them! The Café is painted red so that it fits in with all the other colours of the town.

Jose jump lives in the yellow house and she is in to all things sporty and dance related. Sometimes though when she is doing sports she really looks very out of place and not like she would be into sport in real life. He song is very catchy but I am sure she has been replaced lately with another actor who looks just the same!

Spencer is the town's musician and he lives in the orange house. He is meant to be good with instruments although I do not see him as a very good musician in general. He also does a lot of painting and decorating but again does not seem particularly good at it!

I think I have gone through all the main characters but now I have written it all down the whole show must be a slight joke. No one actually seems any good at what they are meant to do. I suppose to small children this would not be noticeable but I have always thought Archie's inventions were useless and PC Plum could not really solve any cases. Now I see that all the characters are pretty useless at what they are meant to do, apart from Miss Hooley that is.

However, the show on a whole is very good. The songs are very catchy and I have often found myself singing them in the most inappropriate of places! When this show is one Jack is truly glued to the TV set (not very good but we don't watch it that often). The stories are always simple and easy to follow and I do believe this is a favourite show amongst many children of this age. I would therefore rate Balamory a 5 star award. It has a learning feel to it as well as a lot of fun too
