Peace and quiet in the New Forest

Advantages: Friendly staff and a lovely setting
Disadvantages: Car park can get very full during busy periods

Set just outside of Brockenhurst in the heart of the New Forest National Park, The Balmer Lawn Hotel sits away from the main road with a cricket pitch out the front and a river just to the right of it. The hotel has 55 spacious en-suite rooms, some with 4 poster beds, some family rooms, some with fantastic views of the New Forest and some with balconies. There are no two rooms the same as all have been individually designed to add to the uniqueness of your stay. All rooms have their own tvs, and if you are in a family room, there are games consoles to keep the kids happy and quiet on a rainy day. The hotel has four different styles of rooms: Standard (twin or double bed rooms), Superior (with a bit more style and comfort and overlooking either the cricket pitch or the New Forest), Four-Poster (with a Queen sized Four Poster ...

dutch bike hire in London: a real rip-off

Advantages: none
Disadvantages: deceiving images, you don't get the bikes you are paying for

Last weekend, me and my friends decided to go for a tour of Regent Canal by bicycle, and therefore we looked for a bike hire service in London. Even though there were cheaper options we decided to treat ourselves for one day and choose one of these appealing bicycles, just to make it a really unique experience for one day! If only we knew! The delivery process is quite straightforward, you choose a bicycle and they deliver it to you wherever you are in London with a little van. And here we had the first surprise: they delivered to us 3 bikes ...

The New Forest, only 900 years old.

Advantages: See wild ponies and if you are lucky some deer.
Disadvantages: Busy in the summer holidays, public transport is poor.

and the surrounding areas. They don't really stray much into the New Forest it self and will only get you as far as Totton or Hythe, right on the eastern boundary of the Forest. National Express coaches also do a service to the South Coast, their main coaches normally terminate in Southampton. I do know however that there is an airport service to Southampton and another service between Southampton and Bournemouth, but please check with National Express for more details. ~~Accomodation~~ There is the usual array of accommodation available in and around the New Forest. There are hotels, guesthouses, Bed and Breakfast (B&B's) accommodation and finally there are campsites. There are only a few hotels right in the Forest and most of these are privately run, here is a list of some that I know. Balmer Lawn Hotel, Brockenhurst Rhinefield House ...
